BBC pundit buzzing at "great" Leeds news he’s heard out of Elland Road

Leeds United are an impressive force in the Championship and could now be set for a huge boost away from the pitch regarding one of their star men, according to BBC pundit Carlton Palmer.

Leeds United's impressive recent form…

Since suffering relegation last term, Leeds United have managed to stabilise themselves to some extent and have produced some commendable form in England's second tier, winning six of their last seven matches on league duty. Daniel Farke has proven himself to be a shrewd appointment by the Leeds United hierarchy based on current evidence and will be hoping his side can improve on their current league position of third, with 31 points taken from their opening 16 fixtures.

The Whites travel to face Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Friday evening, as they return from international duty with designs on cutting second-placed Ipswich Town's eight-point advantage down to five ahead of the weekend's round of matches.

Pascal Struijk, Stuart Dallas, Jamie Shackleton, Joe Gelhardt, Djed Spence and Sam Byram have all had recent injury issues and it remains to be seen who is fit enough to return to contention for Leeds United's away clash in South Yorkshire, as cited by Leeds Live.

It was hoped that the former four would return to training at some point. At the same time, former Norwich City full-back Byram was taken off in the Whites' victory over Plymouth Argyle before the international break owing to a hamstring problem.

Entering a congested period of fixtures, Leeds United will hope to keep pace with the chasing pack for promotion and could now receive a major boost involving one of their star players.

Carlton Palmer drops Archie Gray verdict

Speaking to Football League World, BBC pundit Palmer has delivered some exciting information he has heard out of Elland Road involving Leeds United star Archie Gray.

Recent reports have linked Gray with a big-money move to Premier League giants Liverpool. At the same time, Everton and Crystal Palace are said to be keen on the 17-year-old midfielder, as per The Daily Mail.

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray.

Palmer told the outlet in light of rumours indicating Leeds United could be set to open talks over a new contract for Gray: "Leeds United are confident that Archie Gray – the 17-year-old prodigy – will commit his future to the club, despite interest from top clubs at home and abroad.

"Leeds have slapped a whooping £30-40m price tag on the young man's head. But in a massive boost for the club in their quest to reclaim their Premier League status once again, Gray has given the club the indication that he's happy where he is, and wants to continue his footballing education at Leeds United under Daniel Farke. This is great news for the manager, the club and the supporters."

Having made 17 appearances across all competitions in 2023/24 for Leeds United, Gray looks to be a player with a massive future in the game and keeping him at Elland Road would provide a major boost for everyone connected with the club (Gray statistics – Transfermarkt).

Zimbabwe's fight a big takeaway for satisfied Masakadza

The Zimbabwe captain praised the team for doing well in conditions where better teams have struggled

Mohammad Isam15-Nov-2018

Hamilton Masakadza restored parity with a half-century•AFP

The confidence of doing well in conditions where better teams have struggled is Zimbabwe’s biggest gain in Bangladesh, according to Hamilton Masakadza, their captain. In the second Test, Zimbabwe fought back after conceding a 218-run deficit but pushed the game into the second session on the final day. They eventually lost the Test with the series finishing 1-1.In the last three years, South Africa, England, Australia and Sri Lanka have struggled in Mirpur, England and Australia were famously defeated by Bangladesh for the first time in Tests.”I think the biggest thing for us is the way the guys played in both Tests, just showed us what we can do as a team,” Masakadza said. “It will give us a lot of confidence going forward. Having been in battles like this really hardens you, and you come out the better for it on the other side. That’s the biggest lesson and the biggest positive for us.”We came and showed what we can do in foreign condition, conditions that have been really hard for pretty much everyone around the world. We came and really competed and took the game to Bangladesh. So that’s really positive and big for us.”Masakadza credited Brendan Taylor for becoming the first Zimbabwean to score hundreds in each innings of a Test twice, and Kyle Jarvis for bowling consistently throughout the tour. In Sylhet, it was the spin trio of Sikandar Raza, Brandon Mavuta and Wellington Masakadza who kept the home side under pressure.”A world-class performance from a world-class player there in Brendan Taylor in this game. He really showed the way of how to bat in these conditions. That was really impressive from him, the way he batted in both innings.”Kyle Jarvis also bowled really well. Even in Sylhet, Tendai Chatara. The seamers have got us wickets early in every game, and the spinners came into it in the first match with Brandon [Mavuta], my brother [Wellington Masakadza] and Sikander [Raza] bowling really well,” he said.Masakadza however rued giving away the advantage on the fourth morning when they reduced Bangladesh to 25 for 4 in the first hour.”If we had managed to build on that four wickets, we might have managed to keep them down to something sort of 320-350 which we would definitely have fancied our chances of getting.”That wicket didn’t really deteriorate or misbehave as much as we expected it to, or as much as it normally does. If we had managed to get a few more after they were four down, we could have had them under pressure.”But for all the gains made in the two Tests, Masakadza said that fewer matches in the near future wasn’t “ideal” for the team. It is likely that their only international cricket in the next six months is a Test in India, likely to be held in March.”I haven’t really had a look, but I think we only have one series between now and the next six months, and that’s some games against India. That’s the only thing that’s on the radar.”I know the board is trying to organise some more games for us, but I don’t know how far along that has gone. That will be the next challenge for us. It’s not ideal to be waiting this long before play, but we have to take that as it is.”

3 dream players Southampton could sign in January including 11 goal striker

After losing four Championship matches on the spin out of five games played in October, Russell Martin's hopes of securing promotion straight back to the Premier League as Southampton manager were looking slim with the 37-year-old even worrying about his position a matter of months into his new post.

It's turned around since that sticky patch of form thankfully for the Saints and Martin in the dug-out, the South Coast side actually haven't lost since that run of losses with four wins from their last five second-tier matches seeing the team climb to fourth in the league standings.

Southampton striker Che Adams.

Martin will still want to add new faces to his Saints group this January to help his side in the crunch months to come in their pursuit to clinch promotion, bolstering his team to potentially battle with Leicester City and Ipswich Town currently occupying the coveted top two spots.

Here are three dream signings that could come through the door at St Mary's this January…

1 Maximilian Entrup

Southampton are rumoured to be in for Entrup when the transfer window re-opens, the 26-year-old forward lighting up the Austrian Bundesliga with his displays for TSV Hartbeg this season which has seen him attract interest.

The current TSV Hartberg attacker has 11 goals from as many games in all competitions so far, leading to the prolific 6 foot 1 attacker even being called up to the Austria national team ranks.

Southampton could well be looking at Entrup also as a viable option to bring in to bolster an attack that could be weakened if Che Adams moves on from the Saints, adding in another clinical sharpshooter to the group to go toe-to-toe with top scorer Adam Armstrong.

Hartberg's number 11 displayed an unerring coolness in front of goal in an encounter versus Wolfsberger AC recently, only needing four shots in total to score a brace in a convincing 3-0 win as per Sofascore.

Entrup's rich goalscoring form should see him clinch a big move away soon, with Southampton one location he could potentially call home next away from Austria.

2 Nathan Wood

Nathan Wood plays int he Championship for Swansea City against Bristol City.

Martin could go back to his former side and raid a player from the Swansea City squad this January, with a deal for Nathan Wood potentially back on – the Swans defender previously rumoured to rejoin his old manager in a switch to Southampton this summer, a bid of £10 million eventually waved away.

The 21-year-old defender would offer Southampton another mobile presence at the back alongside Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Swansea's number 23 perfect for Martin's philosophy at St Mary's as a defender who can competently pass out from the back.

Under new Swans manager Michael Duff this season, Wood has amassed 53.4 accurate passes out from the back per game as sourced by Sofascore.

Further, Wood even has a goal next to his name this campaign alongside his other defensive contributions – bundling the ball over the line versus West Brom, a consolation strike on the day unfortunately in a 3-2 loss.

Martin might well want a fresh face in at centre-back to rival Saints captain Jack Stephens and first-team stalwart Jan Bednarek, Wood a possible shout to add to his group.

3 Ben Johnson

West Ham United defender Ben Johnson.

A move for Johnson this January would see Southampton go back in for another deal they failed to get over the line before, Martin interested in bringing Johnson to St Mary's this summer but a move never materialised.

It's a deal that would suit all parties involved, the 23-year-old completely un-used under David Moyes this season in the Premier League with West Ham's number two often having to settle for a place on the bench.

Southampton would also benefit from the proposed deal as it would give the Saints another player to rely upon at left-back or even centre-back where Johnson can also play, the South Coast side light on left-back numbers with Ryan Manning the only player fit in the squad currently who can be deployed there.

Adding in a fresh figure would give Manning some competition, on top of just alleviating Martin's stresses when it comes to team selections if his Irish defender was ruled to be unfit for action.

+ CONFIRA A TABELA DO BRASILEIRÃO

Nível do futebol brasileiro

Estamos trabalhando bastante a fase defensiva.

A PCB press release said she had stepped down from the role and Javeria Khan, who filled in for Maroof, will continue to lead.Pakistan squad for World T20

Pakistan had already named a 15-member squad for the tournament earlier this month. That squad did not contain Maroof, or a stand-in captain, with the PCB choosing to wait on her fitness. Maroof’s return now means that Sidra Ameen, who had been named in the original squad, no longer finds a place.Maroof won nine out of the 22 games she captained in a tenure that began in July 2016. A key batsman in the side, she averaged only 19 when she was juggling leadership duty, with two fifties in 20 innings. Javeria has been at the helm for only six matches – three against Bangladesh, which Pakistan won, and three against Australia, which they lost.Pakistan will warm up for the World T20 with a brace of games, against South Africa and Bangladesh, on November 3 and 6, respectively. They will open their tournament against three-time champions Australia.

Shai Hope stars with 146* as West Indies level series

Hope and Keemo Paul shared a 71-run seventh-wicket stand to take West Indies home with two balls to spare

The Report by Mohammad Isam11-Dec-2018

Shai Hope starred with an unbeaten 146 off 144 balls to help West Indies register their first win on the tour of Bangladesh and also draw level in the three-match ODI series. He was ably supported by Keemo Paul, who came in with West Indies precariously placed at 185 for 6 in the 39th over. The duo added 71, taking the visitors home in the final over. Hope’s maiden century in a winning cause contained 12 fours and three sixes, and it was his timely attack towards the end that flattened the home side.Needing 22 runs off the last two overs, Hope struck Mustafizur Rahman for three fours, past point, long-off and the final one dinked over the wicketkeeper, before Paul calmly took the winning runs with two balls to spare in the last over. Paul was unbeaten on 18 off 31 balls, providing much-needed support to West Indies’ batting hero.Hope’s knock was replete with singles that came through delicate dabs and dinks, and fittingly he reached his third ODI hundred with a single off Mashrafe Mortaza in the 41st over. But he found the boundary at will, generally through pulls, inside-out hits over cover and slog sweeps, whenever the situation demanded. He ensured that West Indies remained in the hunt, before launching into Rubel Hossain in the 48th over, hitting him for a straight six and taking 10 off the over after Bangladesh had strung together some tight overs.Opening the innings, Hope was the one constant for West Indies. His partner Chandrapaul Hemraj fell in the second over for 3, trapped lbw by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but Hope then shared a 65-run stand with Darren Bravo to pull West Indies out of the rut.Hope’s first shot of intent was a driven six off Mustafizur in the ninth over, before he struck Mashrafe slightly straighter, for his second six. In the same over, Bravo clubbed his first six as the pair looked set to take the game away. However, two overs later Rubel broke through when he bowled Bravo behind his legs, for 27 off 43 balls. But West Indies did not capitulate. Hope and Marlon Samuels then added 62 runs for the third wicket, bossing the middle overs, before Samuels was caught behind off Mashrafe. Imrul Kayes then dropped Shimron Hetmyer, so far West Indies’ best batsman on tour, when he had not even opened his account. But Rubel, who had suffered the dropped catch, made amends in his next over. Hetmyer was caught at deep square leg, Nazmul Islam taking the catch after he had come in as substitute for Imrul, who walked off after the dropped catch holding his chest.Rovman Powel and Roston Chase fell cheaply thereafter, both caught at mid-on. But it threw opened the doors for a Hope-and-Paul special in the last 40 minutes. With the ball too, West Indies had to make several mini-comebacks. Fast bowler Oshane Thomas took three wickets as West Indies halted Bangladesh’s progress on at least two occasions. First, they got rid of both Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim in the space of 3.1 overs after the pair added 111 for the second wicket. On 50, with four fours and a six, Tamim slogged Devendra Bishoo to midwicket where Kemar Roach completed the catch. Mushfiqur was caught behind off Thomas’ wide delivery, having made 62 off 80 balls, with five fours.Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah then added 61 runs for the fourth wicket, a fine recovery which could have led them to a 280-plus total. But just when Bangladesh entered the last 10 overs, they lost Mahmudullah, caught slogging Powell in the 41st over.Shakib struck four boundaries and a six during this period, taking 16 off the 45th over in which he was also caught at midwicket off a Thomas no-ball. But he fell with exactly three overs remaining, leaving the slogging duty to Mehidy and Mashrafe, who managed to eke out only a further 16 runs.An unproductive final ten overs that yielded just 64 proved costly in the end, given the slim margin of defeat with just two balls remaining.
