If they are to better Celtic, though, Rangers will likely need to make improvements to their squad this summer. This process has already begun with Jefte and Oscar Cortes having already joined the Scottish powerhouse, with the latter once again coming in on loan from Lens, while Clinton Nsiala will officially move to the club on 1st July, sealing a permanent switch from AC Milan.

In terms of further incoming at Ibrox this summer, Hammarby youngster Nathaniel Adjei is reportedly wanted by Rangers, with a £5m move to Glasgow potentially on the cards. Elsewhere, the Gers appear to be leading the race to sign 20-year-old forward Yusuf Kabadayi from Bayern Munich in a deal that could be worth between £1-1.5m. It was also reported earlier this week that Rangers are ready to step up their interest in Connor Barron, who is out of contract this summer from Aberdeen.

While incomings are expected to be a priority at Rangers this summer, there could also be a big exit on the cards at Ibrox. The player potentially set to depart the club is Tom Lawrence, who signed from Derby County on a free transfer back in 2022 and is currently earning £22,000-a-week on a contract which runs until 2025.

Ex-Rangers star David Templeton heaped praise on Lawrence when he first signed for the Gers, backing him to be a big player for the club.

“He’s [Lawrence] a very good player,” Templeton said. “I thought that when he signed. I lived down in Derby so I watched a few of their games when I was down there. I was always impressed with him. Very good technically and on the ball, can create changes and score goals.

“I thought he was a very good signing [for Rangers] and started well. It was just unfortunate he got that injury. He will be a big player to get back. He was doing very well before that injury.”

The versatile midfielder has gone on to feature 41 times across all competitions for the Scottish side, scoring six and assisting five in the process. However, following the arrival of Clement last season, Lawrence has seen his game time limited somewhat, with the 30-year-old completing 90 minutes on just three occasions in the SPL last term.

In turn, Football Insider are now reporting that Rangers are open to selling Lawrence this summer as Clement is looking to reinvest any money made from his sale into the first team. In terms of a transfer fee, Rangers are open to parting ways with the player for £5m, which is of course a big profit on the free transfer they secured back in 2022.

Australia head coach Justin Langer has previously cautioned against promoting Green too early – particularly while he recovers from the back problems that are restricting his bowling – but that is unlikely to temper the talk ahead of the proposed Test series against India in December despite Australia’s XI being very stable.”It would be hard not to hear bit of hype,” Agar said, “but all I know is when he’s out on the cricket field, he’s just watching that ball as hard as he can. [He] loves batting, loves playing cricket and the scary part is that he’s not bowling at the moment. He’s a great bowler when he’s up and running. To be able to play as a top four batsman and a frontline fast bowler is a great combination.”There is a hope that Green may be able to bowl in match conditions in this opening stage of the Sheffield Shield, which is being played entirely in an Adelaide hub. FLAMENGO ESCAPOU DO PIOR
O jogo não iniciou no 220 volts, como era esperado pelo peso do confronto, mas logo boas chances foram construídas. Todas pelo Grêmio, superior com a bola no pé diante de um bagunçado sistema defensivo do Fla, que escapou de uma derrota parcial por falta de capricho dos mandantes frente a Diego Alves.

Sob o comando de Felipão, o Grêmio conseguiu tabelas com certa facilidade pelo meio, onde Alison desperdiçou a melhor oportunidade, quando optou pelo bico após trama com Borja, e ainda forçou a expulsão de Isla, ingênuo no mano a mano em dois lances com Ferreirinha, resultando em amarelos.

BAIXAS SIGNIFICATIVAS
Ferreirinha, aliás, só foi acionado por conta de uma lesão muscular de Douglas Costa, na casa dos 30 minutos. A estrela tricolor vinha se destacando nos arranques e aparições pelo lado direito de ataque. E, dez minutos depois, foi o Flamengo que perdeu uma peça essencial: Bruno Henrique, também com dores na coxa. O espetáculo perdeu com dois atacantes decisivos.

AS TAIS PECULIARIDADES DO FUTEBOL
Curiosamente, o Flamengo, com um a menos e duas trocas no intervalo, sendo uma delas Arrascaeta, voltou superior, com domínio da posse de bola. E, confiante tendo um rico arsenal ofensivo, fez blitz para abrir o placar. Outro fator inusitado é que o gol saiu de Bruno Viana, certamente o jogador mais contestado entre as duas torcidas, depois de escanteio e falha de posicionamento do Grêmio, com 7′. Detalhe (para temperar ainda mais essa salada): a bola desviou em Rafinha (!) antes de entrar. E haveria espaço para mais “surpresas”.

E VIROU HUMILHAÇÃO…
A partir do gol, o Flamengo seguiu arriscando contragolpes e encontrou espaços que não tinha na etapa inicial. O Grêmio sucumbiu ao plano reativo dos cariocas, que viram Michael ser decisivo em estocadas pontuais. Numa, Everton Ribeiro recebeu livre e perdeu, no último lance antes de Vitinho entrar.

E foi do camisa 11 as assistências primorosas para os gols de Michael e Rodinei. Antes, o Grêmio, com Diego Souza acionado, tentou na base do abafa, mas sem “punch” algum nas tentativas. Pelo contexto, virou humilhação, já que, mesmo em ritmo de treino, deu tempo para um gol no último lance, em pênalti sofrido por Michael (confirmado via VAR). Adivinha quem bateu? Vitinho, um dos principais responsáveis pela virada de chave: 4×0.

After narrowly missing out on a second consecutive European campaign, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side are on the lookout for reinforcements within his squad.

Numerous outgoings are also expected at St James’ Park, as the Magpies look to offload some of the deadwood currently plying their trade on Tyneside.

Miguel Almiron has constantly been linked with a move away from the club, with the Paraguayan free to leave should the club receive a reasonable fee for his services.

Should he leave, the Magpies would certainly need another body within their forward line to support the likes of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon who have both managed to achieve double figures in the Premier League this season.

However, numerous players have been linked with a move to Tyneside, including one player who has attracted interest from a whole host of other Premier League clubs.

Newcastle need to ramp up interest in £35m star

In recent weeks, a report from the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle are battling Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa for the signing of Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.

However, Brighton & Hove Albion have also entered the race for his signature, starting negotiations for the Dutchman, with Newcastle needing to act quickly if they are to win the race.

The 22-year-old has been exceptional this season and has become a vital player for Leeds in the Championship, scoring 19 goals and registering nine assists in the competition, in which they fell just short of promotion after a 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Wembley.

Football Insider has more recently reported this week that Daniel Farke's side will desperately need to raise funds following their play-off final defeat, with the Dutch winger potentially available for a fee around the £35m mark this summer.

Summerville would be a cheaper option for the Magpies than Raphinha, who has reportedly recently rejected a move to St James’ Park, whilst also having more potential to grow and develop into a world-class talent.

He would certainly be a great alternative to the Brazilian whilst also providing an upgrade on Almiron, with the Magpies desperately needing to replace the 30-year-old if they are to return to any form of European competition next season.

Why Summerville would be an upgrade on Almiron

Newcastle forward Almiron endured a very disappointing 2023/24 campaign, failing to score a single goal in the Premier League for the Magpies in 2024, and unable to get anywhere near his tally of 11 goals from the season prior.

As a result, he’s set to depart the club during the off-season, with Summerville a great player to replace the Paraguayan should he depart Tyneside.

When comparing the duo on FBref, the Leeds talent has dominated Almiron over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, a further reason as to why he would be an upgrade on Newcastle’s number 24.

The youngster registered a staggering 24 more goals and assists combined, averaging six times more contributions per game than the current Magpies attacker.

Summerville, who’s been described as “sensational”, by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has also averaged more shots per 90, with a higher shot-on-target accuracy – figures that would provide Howe’s side with an added threat in the final third.

That take-on success is also an exciting element of the Dutchman's game with the winger having notably been described as a "1v1 monster" by analyst Ben Mattinson in the past.

All of Summerville’s stats show how threatening he is in the final third and the club now desperately need to fork out the fee demanded for the youngster and provide him with consistent top-flight minutes to allow him to reach his full potential.
