Nottingham Forest are set to be one of the busier Premier League sides in the final weeks of the summer transfer window as they line up a mammoth five new signings, according to one reliable journalist.

Quiet summer for Nottingham Forest

So far, this summer has been one of consolidation rather than addition for Nuno Espírito Santo and co. at the City Ground. They have been able to keep hold of key duo Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo after their financial fair play fears were eased by the sale of Moussa Niakhate to Lyon.

Meanwhile, their squad is beginning to take shape after two hectic seasons that has seen them make close to 50 transfers since their promotion to the top flight back in 2022. They have added Elliot Anderson in a deal worth £35m, which was considered a market opportunity given Newcastle's own FFP concerns.

They have also replaced Niakhate with Nikola Milenkovic, who had previously been linked with Manchester United but has now moved to the Midlands in a £12m deal. Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel arrived in a £3.3m move, alongside young duo Eric Moreira and Marko Stamenic, who were signed from Red Star and FC St Pauli respectively.

But much of the squad retains the same look as it did for the final game of the 2023-24 campaign. Now though, that seems set to change.

Forest set for late summer splurge

That comes as reliable reporter John Percy claims that as many as five new signings (and perhaps more) could find their way to the City Ground between now and the end of the transfer window in a month's time.

"Forest will look to make further additions", he reports, with the "priority" being "two wingers, a forward, a left-back and another goalkeeper" between now and the end of the transfer window.

They have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace no.2 Sam Johnstone, while recent reports have also credited them with eyeing up an opportunistic move for Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

As it stands though, only one deal is close. That comes in the form of winger Ramos Sosa, with Percy adding that "a £10 million deal" for the Paraguayan winger is "understood to be the next potential incoming" at the City Ground.

Still just 24-years-old, Sosa has been described as "an excellent ball carrier" who "can drag his team up the pitch as well prove rather useful on the counter" by South American football journalist Nathan Joyes on X.

His arrival would help provide cover and competition to exciting pair Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi, both of whom have proved adept in doing just that since their moves to the Midlands 12 months ago.

For Forest, it appears that the transfer window is only just getting underway, and there could be plenty more to come before the deadline.

وقال المصدر في تصريحاته: “يرغب هاني أبو ريدة في أن يتحقق ذلك خلال عام على أقصى تقدير، وسيتم تهيئة مشروع الهدف لتحقيق هذا الهدف”.

ويأتي ذلك، في سياق جهود الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم لتطوير البنية التحتية للعبة في مصر، حيث يُعدّ مشروع الهدف من المشروعات الهامة التي تهدف إلى توفير منشآت رياضية حديثة ومُتكاملة.

ومن المُتوقع أن تُساهم استضافة الفرق والمنتخبات العالمية في رفع مستوى الكرة المصرية من خلال الاحتكاك بمدارس كروية مُختلفة، بالإضافة إلى توفير فرص للاعبين والمدربين المصريين للاستفادة من الخبرات العالمية.

وعن حالة الفريق البدنية أفاد أنشيلوتي: “لم يتعاف الجميع. لقد خفضنا كثافة تدريبات اليوم، فقط التكتيكات. لقد أشتكينا عدة مرات من الجدول. مباراة في الساعة 9:30 مساءً في أغسطس، أستطيع أن أفهم وليس في يناير”.

وأوضح قائلاً: “لا أعرف ما إذا كان مبابي أكثر من قائد أم لا، ولكن في كل يوم يمر يسعى للحصول على مزيد من الشهرة في الملعب. خارج الملعب وفي التدريب دائماً ما يكون متواضعاً للغاية”.

وأكمل حديثه: “الآن يُظهر مبابي مستوى عالٍ جداً على أرض الملعب وهذا يساعدنا وأعتقد أن فترة تكيفه قد انتهت”.

وعن فينيسيوس جونيور، أجاب: “لم نتحدث عن هذا الأمر. فينيسيوس أصبح أكثر هدوءاً لأنه تعلم من البطاقة الحمراء. سنفتقده لأنه لاعب رائع”.

وحول مشاركة إندريك أمام لاس بالماس: “فكرتي لم تتغير أبداً. نحن نعتمد عليه دائماً مع الأخذ في الاعتبار فترة التعلم. علينا أن نأخذ ذلك في الاعتبار. إنه يتقدم كما إعتقدنا عندما وصل. إنه جاد للغاية ومحترف للغاية ويستغل الدقائق”.

ورد أنشيلوتي على تصريحات سيميوني مدرب أتلتيكو مدريد قائلاً: “هذه أشياء تُقال للمعرض. عالم كرة القدم بأكمله يدرك ما يمثله ريال مدريد على مدار تاريخه الممتد 125 عاماً. أعتقد أنها أشواك تؤلم”.

Aston Villa’s summer signings so far have shown they will be a team to fear in the Champions League next season under Unai Emery.

Ian Maatsen arrives with plenty to prove, while the likes of Ross Barkley, Cameron Archer and Jadon Philogene add some much-needed strength in depth across several areas of the squad, which could be crucial if they progress far in Europe.

It has been the signing of Amaou Onana which has turned plenty of heads. The Belgian midfielder arrived in the Midlands for a fee in the region of £50m, spurning the advances of Manchester United in the process.

Will the Spaniard make any more marquee signings during the current summer transfer window, however? As it looks like the 52-year-old is still keen on bringing a player who has been perennially linked to the club over the coming weeks.

Aston Villa still showing interest in signing Chelsea star

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast (via the 4th Official), the Villa Park outfit are reportedly still keen on bringing Conor Gallagher to the club before the end of the summer window.

The hunt for the Englishman has been an ongoing saga since the end of last season. Emery clearly admires Gallagher as he looks to add a solid partner for Onana in the heart of the pitch.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that the Blues want a fee of around £55m for their academy graduate, which could perhaps be slightly out of Emery’s price tag.

Gallagher’s contract at the Stamford Bridge side runs out at the end of next season, however, which could give Villa some room to negotiate with the Blues should Emery be desperate to bring him to the club.

His form last term means that he could easily slot into the Villa starting XI next term.

The 24-year-old has worked his way up to becoming a first team star at Chelsea, enduring a few spells out on loan before establishing himself in the starting XI during the 2022/23 campaign.

The midfielder demonstrated his attacking abilities in the process, scoring seven times while registering nine assists in all competitions as he shone when compared with the rest of the team.

Indeed, among the squad, Gallagher ranked second for overall Sofascore rating (7.31) in the Premier League, while also ranking fourth for goals and assists (12), second for big chances created (11), and for key passes per game (1.4), yet more evidence of his attacking talents, creating plenty of chances for others.

His passing skills were also on show last season. Out of the entire Premier League, Gallagher ranked in the top 9% for pass success rate (89;2%), proving that he is more than able to dictate matches and control the midfield area.

He would certainly be able to form a solid partnership with Onana should he join Villa, plus he is also statistically similar to a Euro 2024 sensation…

The Spaniard was one of the finest players at the most recent European Championships, emerging as the beating heart for Spain as they won their fourth continental title.

Ruiz not only registered four goal contributions during Spain’s victorious tournament, but he also created three big chances, averaged 1.7 key passes per game while finishing the competition with a 91% pass success rate.

Like Gallagher, his passing is a key strength, as demonstrated in Germany, while he isn’t shy in bursting forward from the heart of the midfield to create chances for others either.

Indeed, the Spaniard is the fifth-most comparable player to Gallagher via FBref, meaning Villa could be signing a player similar to the Euro 2024 star.

The pair also registered similar statistics domestically with regard to shots per 90 (1.38 vs 1.43), pass success rate (both 89.2%), shot-creating actions per 90 (3.14 vs 3.01) and percentage of aerial duels won per 90 (47.2% vs 33.3%) last season.

Ruiz has proved he is one of the most exciting midfielders on the continent due to his performances for club and country of late. Could Gallagher follow in these footsteps?

What Conor Gallagher could offer Aston Villa

It is clear that Gallagher could offer Villa a key threat going forwards, which would allow the likes of Onana to demonstrate his defensive abilities by tidying up behind the Englishman, giving him the freedom to aid the attack.

The Chelsea star can also chip in with the defensive aspects of the game when Villa do not have the ball, however. When compared to his positional peers, the 24-year-old ranks in the top 25% for tackles per 90 (2.45) while ranking in the top 28% for interceptions (1.24) and blocks (1.44) per 90.

Hardly earth-shattering, but solid enough to give Emery some added protection to his midfield.

Respected analyst EBL stated that Gallagher was a “pressing and transition monster” back in January 2023 amid links to Everton, and this sort of playing style could be advantageous to the Spanish coach next season.

Signing the midfielder would help Emery establish a midfield which would be among one of the finest in the Premier League, giving the club a wonderful chance of replicating their fourth-place finish from last season.

While £55m may be the asking price, the Midlands side will be keen to bring this down substantially, especially given his contract scenario.

He may have to sell another first-team player or two in order to fund a potential move, but this would certainly be worth it considering how impressive Gallagher has been of late.

Sri Lanka fast bowler Dhammika Prasad has announced his retirement from international cricket at age 37.Prasad played the last of his 25 Tests in October 2015, following which a serious shoulder injury impeded his career. Prasad eventually made a first-class comeback, following surgery, but could not quite break back into the national team.Before that injury, however, he was one of Sri Lanka’s premier quicks, remembered with particular fondness for his second-innings 5 for 50 at Headingley in 2014, which led to Sri Lanka winning their first series in England. That was his only five-wicket haul in Tests, but he was nevertheless impressive at home in 2015, taking four wickets in an innings consecutively against India.Prasad finished with 75 Test wickets at an average of 35.97, and also took 32 ODI wickets at 30.50 in 24 games. He has a further 276 first-class wickets, largely for his Sinhalese Sports Club side, whom he has played for since 2002.Rangana Herath, a long-time Sri Lanka team-mate, paid tribute to Prasad’s exploits on Thursday.”We had never won a series in England, and when Dhammika took wickets on that fourth day in Leeds, it set us up for victory and that was a remarkable thing,” he said. “When he and I bowled together, I knew he would be putting pressure on the batsman from the other end – either keeping the runs down, or threatening their wickets.”I also remember something to laugh about. In 2015, when we played India at home, he had a heated argument with Ishant Sharma on the field. At the time we all thought it would be something that went on for a long time. But that same evening, we saw him and Ishant having a coffee together at the hotel. If it was 5pm, and he was bowling with an old ball, and there was a batsman batting on 150, he’d still take the ball, because he wanted to get that breakthrough for the team. Those are rare qualities from a cricketer.”Prasad had spent the last few years attempting to make a comeback for Sri Lanka, but his bowling had not quite been the same since the shoulder injury and consequent surgery. He hopes to play another domestic season for SSC before quitting entirely, though this year’s season may not be played, due to Covid-19.
