Kohli and Jadeja score fifties as match turns into open net

Pujara batted for both sides, while Jadeja and Iyer batted twice in the same innings

Day three of the Indians’ practice match against Leicestershire turned into an open net with Cheteshwar Pujara batting for both sides, and Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer getting two digs in the same innings. A lot of the bowling was done by India’s net bowlers Navdeep Saini, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and R Sai Kishore, but Jasprit Bumrah got in a spell each in each session and Virat Kohli, batting at No. 7, scored a breezy half-century. Scoring a fifty in his third innings of the match, Jadeja didn’t consider it important enough to merit his trademark sword-wielding celebration. There was still time perhaps for a grandstand finish or an outright result on day four as the Indians went to stumps leading by 366 runs. Like Jadeja and Iyer, Pujara might want a third innings himself; if Rishabh Pant decides to bat too – unlike Rohit Sharma, who decided one innings was enough for him – we might even get a low-key reprise of the final-day drama at Sydney and Brisbane early last year.Low-key is exactly what the third day was despite a biggish Saturday crowd at Grace Road. The first spells of bowling didn’t lack intensity, though. There was not a single loose delivery in the first half hour. Overnight batter Hanuma Vihari once again looked like he didn’t have a lot of scoring options before edging right-arm seamer Will Davis behind. Saini produced a testing spell in which he had KS Bharat on the hook before getting Jadeja out for the first time with an edge through to slip.Eventually, Kohli came out to bat, piquing the crowd interest both at the ground and on the livestream provided by Leicestershire. Bumrah vs Kohli sparkled, especially when Bumrah bowled short of a length outside off. Kohli doesn’t play the orthodox square cut, but he found a way with the flashy punch. One of them even went for a six over the short off-side boundary. Eventually, though, the shot proved to be his undoing with a catch at square gully.A rare event occurred when Cheteshwar Pujara was stumped off the bowling of Sai Kishore. Pujara has been out in this fashion in first-class cricket only three times. Sai Kishore managed the difficult task of beating Pujara in the air and then turning the ball past his edge.Jadeja and Iyer then saw through most of the rest of the day before a casual flick from Iyer gave Nagarkoti his second wicket, the first being that of the No. 6 Shardul Thakur.

Everton reach agreement with Dyche replacement who’s beaten them six times

Everton have reportedly reached an agreement with a new manager who has beaten them six times in his career, following the sacking of Sean Dyche.

Dyche sacked by Everton

On Thursday, almost out of the blue, it was confirmed that Dyche had been dismissed at Goodison Park, having told The Friedkin Group earlier in the week that he had taken his team as far as he could.

The Englishman lasted in the Everton job for just under two years, having arrived in late January in 2023, and overall, it was a hugely disappointing spell. Granted, he managed to steer the Merseysiders away from Premier League relegation twice, but that’s nothing to shout about for a club of their size.

Everton manager Sean Dyche

This season hasn’t been good enough for the Blues, both in terms of results and performances, with Dyche’s team languishing in 16th place in the table, as well as playing arguably the dullest football in the division, scoring only 15 goals in 19 league games. Only bottom-place Southampton (12) have scored fewer.

Even before Dyche’s sacking, other managers were being linked with replacing him, including former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, but it looks as though someone else is already the front-runner to succeed the 53-year-old.

Everton reach agreement with top manager target

According to journalist Graeme Bailey on X, Everton have reached an agreement with David Moyes on an initial short-term deal until this summer. This follows from the reliable Paul Joyce claiming that Moyes is “of interest” to the Blues and the Scot is the “first choice” target.

While not necessarily perfect, Moyes does feel like the safest option to come in and steady the ship at Everton, having enjoyed such an impressive spell at the club first time around, not least finishing fourth in the Premier League during the 2004/05 season.

The 61-year-old knows the club inside out, and with a move to a new stadium happening at the end of this season, being relegated to the Championship doesn’t even bear thinking about. Bringing in a manager who is an expert at knowing the Premier League and how to grind out results is, therefore, imperative, and Moyes ticks that box emphatically.

Not only that, but he has shown what a competent manager he is when coming up against Everton throughout his career, beating them six times overall, while Micah Richards lauded him after guiding West Ham to UEFA Europa Conference League glory.

Everton eyeing dream Moyes alternative who once held talks with Liverpool

Everton are looking to seal a swift replacement now that Dyche has been deposed.

ByAngus Sinclair Jan 10, 2025

There may be some Everton fans who feel that a Moyes reunion won’t work, or want a manager with more progressive ideas, but he feels like a strong choice at a critical point in the club’s history.

West Ham in talks with rep over signing 6 foot 4 defender for Graham Potter

West Ham United are in ongoing talks with the agent of a colossal centre-back, as chairman David Sullivan and technical director Tim Steidten attempt to back incoming new manager Graham Potter in the January transfer market.

West Ham poised to appoint Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui

Despite a brief lapse in negotiations, where Potter held out for a longer-term contract, as opposed to a short-term deal until the end of the Premier League season (Jacob Steinberg), the Englishman now looks set to replace Julen Lopetegui as manager of the club.

An exit is seemingly beckoning.

ByEmilio Galantini Jan 4, 2025

Lopetegui had been flirting with the sack for quite some time and briefly bought himself an extended period in the Hammers dugout after a 2-1 ‘El Sackico’ win over Wolves, but the 58-year-old’s time has now come as West Ham plan to replace him with Potter.

The east Londoners cancelled a scheduled manager’s press conference on Wednesday morning, with Sullivan meeting Potter and holding talks over the last 48 hours as West Ham decided on the ex-Chelsea boss’ appointment, just six months after landing on Lopetegui to succeed David Moyes.

Lopetegui’s exit, now confirmed by the club, comes after the Spaniard guided them to just six wins from a possible 20 in the Premier League, leaving them 14th in the table, despite serious expenditure in the summer transfer window.

In that time, West Ham also leaked a woeful 39 top-flight goals. Only relegation-threatened Wolves, Leicester City and Southampton have conceded more than the Irons this season, which makes for grim reading and something Potter will want to address pretty quickly.

While a lot of the talk has centered around West Ham potentially signing a new striker in January, there are also major defensive concerns which need to be addressed.

West Ham in ongoing talks with Senou Coulibaly via agent

According to Africa Foot, via Sport Witness, Sullivan and Steidten have turned to a relatively low-profile option to reinforce their backline.

Indeed, it is believed AC Omonia’s Senou Coulibaly has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham, with the club potentially looking to hand Potter the best possible chance of resurrecting their form over the second half of 24/25.

AF claim that West Ham are in ongoing talks with Coulibaly’s agent, potentially looking to sign him in January. The Malian is also attracting interest from London rivals Tottenham, who particularly appreciate the 6 foot 4 defender’s ability.

Coulibaly is dubbed a standout player of the Cypriot first division and has impressed in the Europa Conference League for Omonia this season, which has apparently turned a few heads in the English capital.

The 30-year-old would be an out-of-the-box potential signing for Potter, but a very low cost one considering his deal is currently set to expire in May (with the option of a further year).

Buoyant West Indies seek series win and Test Championship points

Bangladesh are likely to bring on Anamul Haque in place of Najmul Hossain Shanto

Big picture West Indies have the chance to jump over Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship points table when they take on Bangladesh in the second Test, in St Lucia on Friday. The home side are currently in sixth place with 42 points, two behind Pakistan.More enticing than the Test series win for Kraigg Brathwaite’s team however, is the chance to show off their newfound confidence in polishing off sides. West Indies managed to thrust England into a corner in their home series in March, and now have the opportunity to ensure Bangladesh remain pinned down after the seven-wicket win in Antigua. The home side got into strong positions due to their batting and bowling leaders. On either side of Kemar Roach’s seven wickets in the match, Brathwaite’s 94 helped the side take a sizeable first-innings lead. But the captain will be equally pleased with how his deputy Jermaine Blackwood and opening partner John Campbell also got fifties in the match.Related

Alzari Joseph took three wickets, while Kyle Mayers surprised Bangladesh with his subtle swing and accuracy to take two wickets in each innings. West Indies took 13 catches behind the wicket, dropping just the one. Six of those 13 catches were taken at slip, while wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva gobbled up the other seven. West Indies’ ruthlessly simple method to dismantle Bangladesh must be the most heartening part of their performance in the first game. What would worry them slightly, though, is the two batting collapses. In the first innings, they lost their last seven wickets for 68 runs. While chasing 84 in the second innings, they slipped to nine for three on the third evening. Campbell and Blackwood set the course straight with a calming partnership.Bangladesh’s batting collapses are of a more serious kind. They hardly changed the momentum when they were bowled out for 103 in 32.5 overs. They slipped to 109 for 6 in the second innings too, only for Shakib and Nurul Hasan to rescue them with the 123-run seventh wicket partnership. The visitors might be looking at two possible changes. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who made just a single half-century in his last 17 innings, could be replaced by Anamul Haque. Mominul Haque, despite his lull in form, is getting another chance due to a lack of confidence among the reserves. Mustafizur Rahman could also sit out, to make room for Shoriful Islam, although the left-arm quick might not yet be match-ready.Form guide (Last five completed matches; most recent first)
West Indies: WWDDL
Bangladesh: LLDLLIn the spotlight Although he considers himself a batting allrounder, Kyle Mayers was quite effective with the ball in Antigua. Mayers created much trouble for the Bangladeshi batters with his swing, as did the other West Indies fast bowlers with their pace and bounce. Mayers took two wickets each in the two innings, but all four were crucial ones, and never allowed the visitors to settle.Bangladesh ensured a fourth-day finish mainly because of Shakib Al Hasan’s 123-run seventh wicket stand with Nurul Hasan. Both got out in the sixties, well after they averted an innings defeat. Nurul’s spot opened up only after Mushfiqur Rahim’s understudy Yasir Ali suffered a back injury in the practice match. Nurul has made such flashes in the past too, but now has to make this a more meaningful patch of good form.Mominul Haque had another Test to forget, in Antigua•AFP/Getty Images

Team news West Indies are unlikely to change their line-up. They are yet to find out properly what Gudakesh Motie has to offer with the ball. Anderson Phillip and Devon Thomas therefore have to wait for their chance barring any last-minute injuries.West Indies (probable): 1 Kraigg Brathwaite (capt), 2 John Campbell, 3 Raymon Reifer, 4 Nkrumah Bonner, 5 Jermaine Blackwood, 6 Kyle Mayers, 7 Joshua Da Silva (wk), 8 Alzarri Joseph, 9 Kemar Roach, 10 Gudakesh Motie, 11 Jayden SealesBangladesh could bring on Anamul Haque in place of Najmul Hossain Shanto although Mominul Haque may get another opportunity due to batting dearth in the reserves. Shoriful Islam could replace Mustafizur Rahman.Bangladesh (probable): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Mahmudul Hasan Joy, 3 Anamul Haque, 4 Mominul Haque (capt), 5 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 6 Litton Das (wk), 7 Nurul Hasan, 8 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9 Khaled Ahmed, 10 Shoriful Islam, 11 Ebadot HossainPitch and conditionsConditions have mostly favoured fast bowlers at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. In the West Indies-South Africa Test series held here last year, neither team reached 300 in the first innings. There’s likelihood of showers from the third day onwards in this game. Stats and trivia Brathwaite’s 94 in Antigua was his fifth dismissal in the nineties, equaling him to Sir Garfield Sobers. Alvin Kallicharran holds the West Indies record for getting dismissed in the nineties eight times. Three of Bangladesh’s lowest team totals in West Indies have come in their last three Tests. Anamul Haque’s last Test was in St Lucia eight years ago. He now finds himself in line for a Test return, at the same ground.

South Africa chased down the small target inside seven overs to finish third in their group, while Sri Lanka ended rock bottom

South Africa ended an eight-match losing streak, and five in the T20I format, with an emphatic win in their last outing of a long England tour. They finished third in Group B at the Commonwealth Games, and will not feature in the medal matches. Sri Lanka have been left at the bottom of the points table, with losses in all three of their group games and much work to do ahead of qualifiers for next year’s T20 World Cup, specifically in their batting. In this match, Sri Lanka were bowled out for their lowest total in T20Is with only one batter – Chamari Athapaththu – getting into double figures. They had four ducks on the scorecard and only one partnership over 10 runs, and were overly aggressive in their approach, with plenty of loose drives. Shabnim Ismail challenged them with pace, Masabata Klaas’ lengths proved difficult to get away and Nadine de Klerk moved the ball both ways to leave Sri Lanka without many answers.Overall, they had the lowest aggregate score across the group stage of all teams in the tournament, including Barbados, who did not cross 100 in two innings. Sri Lanka scored 106 for 9 against England, 102 for 8 against New Zealand and 46 in this match to total 254. Barbados scored 270 in the tournament. With not many to chase, South Africa eased their way to an incident-free victory in 6.1 overs, their first win since beating Ireland on June 17.Ismail strikes upfront again
Ismail removed Sophia Dunkley with a pinpoint yorker off her first delivery two days ago, and struck with her opening ball again today. It was not quite as testing a ball, on a length and angling away from Hasini Perera, who had not opened the batting at the tournament in the previous two games. Perera played a waspy drive, without moving her feet at all, and got a thick edge that carried to Sinalo Jafta for a comfortable catch. Harshita Patel went the same way in the next over, as she tried to carve Klaas through the off side but did not give herself enough room and edged behind. Sri Lanka were 1 for 2 after eight balls.Redemption for Nadine De Klerk
De Klerk missed South Africa’s first Commonwealth Games match and bowled two overs for 34 runs in their second, so it’s safe to say things hadn’t gone according to plan. But she roared back to take a wicket with her first ball in the third fixture and finish with a double-wicket maiden off her first over to leave Sri Lanka in tatters. She was also tasked with bowling the last over of the powerplay and started with an innocuous, full, wide ball. Anushka Sanjeewani drove hard and should have beat Mignon du Preez at cover point but South Africa’s most experienced player showed the value of her years. She launched herself forward and took a spectacular catch with both hands to give de Klerk her first wicket. At the end of the over, new batter Nilakshi de Silva advanced down the track to hit de Klerk over her head but handed her a simple return catch instead. Sri Lanka finished the powerplay on 12 for 4, the lowest of the Commonwealth Games. De Klerk went on to claim a third wicket in her next over, when she got the ball to swing in to Kavisha Dilhari, who drove loosely, missed and ended up with her legstump out of the ground. De Klerk ended with figures of 3 for 7, the best of her career.Athapaththu’s tournament ends without a bang
Apart from carrying the flag at the opening ceremony, Athapaththu had a tournament to forget with only 25 runs from three innings. She stood batter alone as the top six fell around her but as the halfway stage of the Sri Lankan innings approached, with only 27 runs on the board, she decided to take on the bowling. Though Klaas was not bowling particularly short, Athapaththu swiveled around her back foot but didn’t get enough on the stroke and top-edged to give Klaas an easy catch. Klaas was included in South Africa’s XI in place of Ayabonga Khaka and finished with 2 for 7.Brits, Bosch show glimpses of what could be
Lizelle Lee’s absence has stalked South Africa over the past few weeks. Their top order struggled and the team has been unsure how to deal with questions around her retirement, but there are some signed they are moving on. Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosch showed glimpses of settling into the opening berths, put on 64 in 9.1 overs against England and ensured the chase against Sri Lanka was clinical and quick. They were barely challenged by a demoralised Sri Lankan attack but timed the ball well and found gaps at will. They hit five boundaries and scored at a decent rate to end the match one ball after the powerplay.

Precisamos atender a Seleção? Sim.
