In Focus: Lacazette can turn Arsenal into title contenders once again

As reported by The Telegraph, Arsenal are determined to stay in the hunt for Alexandre Lacazette despite Lyon’s high valuation of the striker.

What’s the story?

It’s no secret that Arsene Wenger is on the hunt for elite players this summer with the significant resources he has available to him. Fans are expecting the best of the best and it seems at the very least that ambition is shared by the Emirates boss.

The Telegraph reckon Arsenal are willing to come close to Lyon’s £50m valuation of the red hot forward, despite dropping their interest in him last summer, having a bid of £30m rejected.

However, the Gunners still need to convince the French striker that his future lies in London with Arsenal unable to offer the prestige of UEFA Champions League football next season.

Is he the answer?

The 26-year-old has scored 113 goals in all competitions for Lyon over the course of the past four seasons and he has just enjoyed his best campaign yet, netting an impressive 37 in 45 outings.

The striker has shown that he has the ability and consistency to play at the very highest level, and the quality of his finishing could help to make the Gunners Premier League title contenders next term.

If Arsenal can add Lacazette to their attacking options this summer – as well as keeping Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – there is no doubt that they could be the force that fans are hoping they can become after the summer.

In Focus: Tottenham move for the talented Vincent Marcel is a no-brainer

According to reports in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for 20-year-old Nice winger Vincent Marcel.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Sun says that Spurs scouts went to watch right-back Ricardo Pereira in action for the Ligue 1 side, but it was Marcel that caught their attention with an eye-catching performance out wide.

While the north London outfit could still complete a deal for Pereira as a replacement for Kyle Walker – who appears to be closing in on a move to Manchester City – they could make it a double swoop by getting the 20-year-old as well.

How did Marcel do last season?

Despite his promising showing when Tottenham scouts were in attendance, it was a rare outing for the winger as he made just 10 appearances in all competitions for the French outfit last term, with just six of those coming in Ligue 1.

However, The Sun says that he has been compared to Ousmane Dembele, who moved to Borussia Dortmund from Rennes last summer following some outstanding displays, and Spurs will be keen to snap Marcel up if there is any chance that he could have a similar impact.

How much would he cost?

It’s difficult to say but probably not too much considering he isn’t a first team regular yet.

The 20-year-old has four years left on his Nice contract but the France Under-20 international could be available for a bargain fee.

Where would he fit in at Spurs?

While he may be considered as one for the future, seeing how the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Winks progressed last season, Marcel may not be too far away from featuring for the first team if he did join the north London outfit.

With Erik Lamela and Son Heung-Min likely to miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery on hip and arm injuries respectively, he could be involved from the very start of the campaign.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, if Marcel has impressed the Tottenham scouts and can be bought for a relatively low fee, then it would be a no-brainer to sign him and develop him into another top player.

Revealed: Majority of Chelsea fans want Belotti over Benteke

We’re now pretty much at the middle-mark of the offseason, and Chelsea find themselves in a bit of a quandary.

Antonio Conte has already told star striker Diego Costa to find a new club but his preferred replacement, Romelu Lukaku, has just signed for divisional rivals Manchester United.

Unfortunately for the Blues, top-class centre-forwards aren’t exactly in abundant supply. But two alternatives in Chelsea’s thoughts according to The Telegraph are Crystal Palace target man Christian Benteke, who bagged 15 Premier League goals last season, and Torino’s exciting attacking prodigy Andrea Belotti.

With that in mind, we asked Chelsea fans last week who they’d prefer their club to sign this summer – the Eagles front-man or the Italy international, who netted 28 times across all competitions last season.

And according to our poll, the Blues fan base is almost unanimously in favour of a swoop for Belotti, who came out on top with a staggering 89% of the vote.

Juan Mata desperate to agree new contract with Manchester United

As reported by The Sun, Juan Mata is eager to commit his future to Manchester United and sign a new long-term contract.

What’s the story?

Mata’s current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of next season meaning his situation at the club is becoming urgent. However, fans needn’t fear him leaving on a free transfer quite yet with the star apparently eager to get it all sorted out.

The Sun reckon the attacking midfielder, who currently earns £170,000-a-week with the club, is keen to sign a new long-term deal.

However, with the option of a further year on his current contract, the paper say that Manchester United themselves are relaxed about the situation and are in no rush to enter discussions.

The 29-year-old has been a stand-out at Old Trafford since his move from Chelsea in 2014, consistently reaching double figures in terms of goals in each of his full seasons since.

He’s become popular with supporters and they’ll be hoping any contract problems are sorted sooner rather than later given his importance to Jose Mourinho’s set-up.

HYS: Should Spurs sign Suso or Barkley?

Tottenham appear keen to add to their attacking midfield options this summer, with recent reports from London Evening Standard and Calcio Meracto linking them with Everton’s Ross Barkley and AC Milan’s Suso respectively.

Of course, the 22-cap Englishman is better known to the Premier League audience having racked up 151 top-flight appearances for the Goodison outfit, including 36 last season that saw him bag six goals and eight assists.

But Suso – valued at £12.75million by Transfermarkt – boasts some Premier League experience as well, making 14 top-flight appearances during a short stint at Liverpool, and showed glimpses of his ability at the San Siro last season with seven goals in Serie A.

It seems unlikely Tottenham will go on to sign both this summer, especially considering Everton want £50million alone for Barkley. So, Lilywhites fans, who would you rather see your club seal the signature of this summer – Barkley or Suso? Let us know by voting below…

Manchester United fans react as transfer target Fabinho storms out of training

Footage surfaced on Tuesday morning of Monaco star and Manchester United target Fabinho storming out of training after a supposed bust up with Kylian Mbappe…

The footage shows the 23-year-old Brazilian storm off the field suring a training game and angrily throw his vest to the floor.

This act of aggression has set off a flurry of rumours that the midfielder wants a move away from the Ligue 1 club, with Manchester United an obvious destination.

However, following the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea last week, would Jose Mourinho feel that need for a player who operates predominantly as a holding midfielder?

At just 23, Fabinho, who is valued at £22.6million by Transfermarkt would be a fantastic long term target for Manchester United, especially as his versatility means he can act as cover for a number of positions in defence and midfield.

Upon seeing the footage of the training ground bust up, Manchester United fans took to social media to express their views…

HYS: Should Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain start against Manchester City?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is believed to have rejected Premier League champions Chelsea this summer in favour of a Deadline Day transfer to Liverpool because of his desire to play in central midfield rather than wing-back – the position that produced arguably his best form in an Arsenal jersey since arriving from Southampton as a teenager.

The problem, however, is the immense strength of competition on Merseyside at this moment in time. It speaks volumes that vice-captain James Milner has been forced to settle for a bench role in recent weeks, such has been the superb form of Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park, both individually and as a trio.

That being said, Oxlade-Chamberlain – who Transfermarkt value at just £19.8million despite his £35million price-tag – is the archetypal Jurgen Klopp midfielder; dynamic, powerful, energetic, creative and at his best on the counter-attack.

So, Liverpool fans, would you disrupt the central midfield formula to find room for the 29-cap England international when the Reds face Manchester City on Saturday? Let us know by voting below…

West Ham United fans unhappy with news Bilic is set to stay

West Ham United fans have been very vocal about the club’s recent results in the Premier League, and they are far from happy.

The East London outfit have picked up just seven points from a possible 21 and they currently reside two points above the relegation zone.

As expected, manager Slaven Bilic has taken the brunt of the criticism, with some fans keen to see the Croatian leave before his contract expires this summer.

The managerial merry-go-round is common in modern-day football, but it seems that the West Ham boss has been handed a lifeline.

According to The Mirror, the club’s hierarchy have decided to give Bilic the season before making a call on his future.

A number of fans have since expressed their discontent at this development.

After the international break, the Hammers will take on Burnley, Brighton and Crystal Palace before the end of October.

So far, the team have managed to find the back of the net seven times in league fixtures and have conceded 13.

Tottenham Hotspur fans excited about new stadium progress

Tottenham Hotspur regularly update the fans on how the club’s new stadium is developing.

Construction is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2018-19 season, which is why the team have been playing all of their home games at Wembley.

Understandably, a lot of fans were emotional when waving goodbye to White Hart Lane, which had been the home of Spurs for 118 years.

However, having a new state-of-the-art ground will allow Tottenham to compete with the big heavyweights in the Premier League and it is a clear sign of progress.

On the pitch, Mauricio Pochettino has helped transform the team into genuine title contenders, and now the club are matching up off the field.

The latest round of pictures to be posted onto Spurs’ Twitter page is from an aerial view, showing that almost three quarters of the stands have been built.

As expected, the fans were very happy with what they saw.
