أكد المدرب الإسباني ميكيل أرتيتا، المدير الفني لنادي آرسنال الإنجليزي، أنه دائمًا يثق في قدرات الجابوني بيير إيميرك أوباميانج، وذلك بعد استعادة ذاكرة التهديف بهدفيه أمام بنفيكا في الدوري الأوروبي.

أوباميانج سجّل هدفين في انتصار آرسنال على بنفيكا بنتيجة 3-2، في المباراة التي جمعت بين الفريقين على ملعب “كارايسكاكيس”، ضمن لقاءات دور الـ32، ليتأهل بنتيجة 4-2 لدور الـ16، بعد التعادل في مباراة الذهاب بهدف لمثله. شاهد أهداف مباراة آرسنال وبنفيكا

وقال أرتيتا في تصريحات صحفية عقب نهاية المباراة: “أنا أثق تمامًا بـ أوباميانج، إنه قادر دائمًا على تسجيل الأهداف عندما تُتاح له الفرص”.

واضاف: “في مباراة الذهاب أضاع ثلاثة أهداف، لقد كان بحاجة إلى الرد اليوم، وكان من الرائع رؤية الطريقة التي يتفاعل بها، حيث شعر بالضيق في المباراة الماضية”.

وواصل: “أوباميانج يحاول دائمًا أن يكون افضل، وأنا سعيد حقًا بما فعله الليلة”.

أوباميانج على ملعب “كارايسكاكيس” في الموسم الماضي، كان أهدر انفرادًا أمام أولمبياكوس ليودع فريقه المسابقة، وسُئل أرتيتا “هل يرى أن اليوم كانت فرصة أوباميانج لتصحيح خطأ الماضي؟”، أجاب: “نعم، هذا ما فكرته فيه بالفعل، لقد كنت سعيدًا للغاية لأنه سجّل”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “هذا هو الجميل في كرة القدم، إذا واصلت المُضي قدمًا فأنت دائمًا لديك فرصة لتصحيح الأمور”.

Jon Flanagan has suffered an injury setback, and the pressure on the inconsistent Borna Barisic has just increased ten-fold.

What’s the word?

According to The Daily Mail, via The Herald, Flanagan has undergone a hernia operation.

This is the second time the versatile full-back has required surgery on this issue, and the last time it kept him out for three weeks.

The report says it is unclear how long this setback will keep him sidelined, but Rangers fans had better hope he is back sooner rather than later.

There’s no question Barisic is back in the Ibrox faithful’s good books. In what is sure to be an intense title race with Celtic, the recent 1-0 win at St. Mirren could well prove pivotal by the end of the campaign, and it was the Croatia international’s stunning free-kick that earned all three points for the Gers.

Yet, we don’t have to look very far back to find loads of criticism about his performances from fans and the media alike. Even just a month ago, some Gers were ready to “punt” him from the club.

Flanagan may not be as technically gifted as the Croatian, but fans adore his tough-tackling style and the defensive solidity he offers, so with the former Liverpool man likely out for at least a few weeks, the pressure on Barisic has never been greater.

As soon as the international break ends, Steven Gerrard’s side face a league test against an undefeated Livingston side before a Europa League clash with Feyenoord and then a slightly more winnable Premiership match away at St. Johnstone, who are currently bottom of the division.

If Barisic puts in the type of performances that forced fans and pundits to turn on him in the past, Gerrard’s side could leak goals and be behind in their Europa League group and several points adrift of Celtic before they even know what hit them.

Quite simply, the Croatian’s time is now. He has to perform.

An interesting article was published recently by Mundo Deportivo claiming that there’s some sort of an internal discussion over at Barcelona and that they are not totally sure who their transfer target should be.

Apparently, some board members still want Neymar but now the name of Kylian Mbappe has also emerged out of practically nowhere.

And the arguments for the 20-year-old Frenchman are pretty strong: he’s younger, scored more goals last season and can even play in the number nine position, which many of the board members like.

Looking at social media, it’s pretty safe to say they are not alone on that one. Many of the fans are also big Mbappe enthusiasts and they have taken to Twitter to voice their opinions.

Many of them seem to prefer the World Cup winner over Neymar and they were pretty vocal about it.

Not everyone, however, is hopeful that Barcelona can get it done but one thing is for sure: many of them seem to love Mbappe.

Joel Ward’s effort from range was deflected past Rui Patricio by his own teammate, Leander Dendoncker, to hand the home side an early second-half lead, then things went from bad to worse as Romain Saiss received his marching orders for picking up a second yellow card.

The equaliser came in the dying seconds of the match as Wolves launched a quick counter-attack through Adama Traore’s blistering pace. The right wing-back managed to cross the ball in for Jota to slot home.

Wolves remain second from bottom without a victory this campaign but having gone down to ten men, the result in south London could have been far more miserable.

Several of the Molineux faithful were quick to praise Traore for his contribution to the match.

One supporter claimed the 23-year-old was a weapon that no other team in the Premier League had while that was reinforced by another who described Traore’s performance as ‘sensational.’

The 5 foot 10 Spaniard began the game at right-wing – which has in the past been his usual position with Nuno deploying a 3-4-3 formation, but when Matt Doherty was substituted, he returned to right wing-back, where he has played all of this season.

Some fans below think Steve Bruce is to blame for rushing the player back before he was 100% ready, and one supporter referenced Rafa Benitez’s handling of injured players as a stick to beat the former Sunderland boss with.
