After a rather sobering 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United last time out, Tottenham fans would be forgiven for already thinking about the summer transfer window and how Jose Mourinho can strengthen the side.

And according to the latest reports, the Lilywhites are targeting one of the players of the season in the Premier League. As per The Daily Mail, Spurs are one of the several clubs interested in signing Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer, and that “though they have a limited transfer kitty, they would be willing to offer players such as Danny Rose and Juan Foyth plus cash”.

After hearing about the links to the Frenchman, Spurs fans flooded to Twitter to share their reactions.

وذكرت تقارير صحفية في الفترة الأخيرة أن أنطونيو روديجر يحظى باهتمام العديد من الأندية الأوروبية، مثل ريال مدريد وبايرن ميونخ.

وأثنى مدرب بايرن ميونخ جوليان ناجيلسمان بالفعل على أنطونيو روديجر خلال مؤتمر صحفي، مما أدى إلى إضافة المزيد من التكهنات.

According to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, the Yorkshire giants will turn their attention to Freiburg centre-back Robin Koch if their hopes of clinching the Brighton sensation fall through.

White is the top target this window but the club have already had two bids knocked back and could be faced with the same answer over their latest £35m offer as per The Sun (via TEAMtalk).

Now Koch has emerged as a potential plan B and with him entering the final year of his contract, he could be available on a much cheaper deal than the Seagulls man.

Forget White

As good as it will be to secure White permanently, it won’t solve all of Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive problems as currently, he only has skipper Liam Cooper at his disposal alongside some youngsters.

That’s not really ideal when you’re entering the first top-flight campaign at Elland Road in 16 years.

Which is why Koch would be a steal to consider, he’s been called up to the German national side by Joachim Lowe in the past year and has even been likened to Bayern’s Javi Martinez in playing style – “a rangy battering ram” and “enforcer” are just two words that have been used to describe him.

According to Freiburg’s head coach Christian Streich, the 24-year-old is a “warrior” and his numbers for the 19/20 campaign back that up immensely.

Per WhoScored, the centreback, who can also play in midfield, averaged 2.9 clearances, 1.4 interceptions, 1.1 tackles and 1.1 shots per game in the Bundesliga whilst also displaying his ability on the ball, managing a passing success rate of 83.7% from nearly 50 passes each outing.

German outlet Kicker (via BuLiNews) believe he could be sold for just €10m (£9m) – that’s a fraction of what Brighton are drumming up for White.

In an ideal world, they secure both but Koch won’t be a bad alternative by any means.

According to France Football, via GFFN, Angers SCO have rejected a €10m (£9m) bid from Unai Emery’s Villarreal for Baptise Santamaria, who has been of interest to the Toffees before.

It’s claimed that the La Liga outfit have moved on from this approach with the French side slapping a €15m (£13.5m) price tag on his head.

The Express reported in April that Everton could battle Leicester City and Spurs for his signature, so perhaps the door has now opened for that to happen.

Better than Davies

It is no secret that Carlo Ancelotti is keen on a move for his old Napoli lynchpin Allen but there’s no harm in lining up a viable alternative if that move doesn’t come to fruition.

And in Santamaria, they get not just that but a bargain too, considering £13.5m is just a fraction of the Brazilian’s reported €40m (£36m) asking price.

The Angers powerhouse has been likened to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante due to their similar playing style and the Foxes’ interest in him.

He’s certainly been an upgrade to Ancelotti’s current options, particularly Tom Davies, as the 25-year-old averaged a whopping 3.3 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.3 shots per game for the Ligue 1 outfit last season.

Davies manages two fewer tackles and half the number of shots per appearance than the uncapped Frenchman.

Santamaria is known for his consistent performances and has very rarely picked up an injury in four years at Angers too.

If Marcel Brands pulls this off, then it will very much be in a similar vein to Kante’s switch from Caen to Leicester, and in doing so, Ancelotti gets the new defensive midfielder he’s been desperately lacking.
