New Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins will have plenty of decisions to make this summer, irrespective of which division the club finds itself in.

Currently, the Addicks have no fewer than nine first-team players out of contract at the end of the season, whilst four loan deals are also set to expire, including talisman Jayden Stockley.

The 27-year-old has impressed on loan from Championship outfit Preston North End, with five goals in only 11 starts, which is near enough a goal every other game for the League One playoff-chasers, as per Transfermarkt.

Stockley remains under contract at Deepdale until the summer of 2022, so the managerless Lilywhites have a decision to make on his future and given his form, there’s every chance he still has a future there instead.

If not, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another second-tier side take a punt on him either. Of course, there’s a chance Charlton are back in that very division come to the end of the campaign, but they shouldn’t worry about that too much just yet.

Adkins may well have a potential successor right under his nose in Josh Davison.

After a lucrative 22-goal spell at non-league Enfield Town, the young striker secured a trial at The Valley where he would go onto bag five times before the club secured his signature.

Speaking about the deal, academy manager Steve Avory said:

“He’s a centre-forward and by that I mean someone who plays right through the middle. He gives us something different to what we felt we had with our strikers. He shows up for the ball well, he holds up the ball well, he’ll get himself into goal scoring positions and he’s certainly proved that in the league games so far.”

“The one thing that impresses you with Josh straight away when you watch him train is his absolute 100% work ethic each and every day. He’s very very keen to succeed and you can see the desire in the way he trains,” added Avory.

This season, Davison has impressed in two loan spells away from the club, bagging five goals in 12 appearances for National League Premier outfit Woking before joining League Two promotion hopefuls Forest Green Rovers.

FGR director of football Rich Hughes added to his glowing endorsements, claiming: “He is an honest forward player with energy and power who shows a desire to compete and press from the front.”

Just like Stockley, the young U23 prospect stands at 6 foot 2 inches and has all the hallmarks of being a similar threat upfront and could be a genuine option for Adkins next season – less so if they are promoted but he’s certainly worth a punt if the Addicks remain in the third-tier.

Davison must be unleashed next season.

Crystal Palace came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday evening.

Substitutes Jeffrey Schlupp and Michy Batshuayi combined late on, with the on-loan Chelsea man being the player to steer home the equalising goal after James Rodriguez had initially given the hosts the lead just ten minutes after the half-time break.

Whilst it was those who were on the bench who eventually had a decisive impact on the scoreline, Wilfried Zaha, who started the game, was a constant threat to the Toffees and probably deserved more than his contribution showed.

According to WhoScored, the Ivorian winger had 73 touches, with only Eberechi Eze, Luka Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt having more throughout the game. He also contributed 44 passes, completing them at a 79.6% success rate.

Whilst Zaha did not manage to contribute a goal or an assist throughout the 90 minutes, he went mightily close to adding to the nine Premier League goals and two assists he has already managed to plunder this term.

The £40.5m-rated wideman produced five key crosses and a further three key passes, with no player on his team managing more. Whilst he was a creative force, Zaha was also an extremely threatening presence himself by firing in three shots – more than any player in the Eagles’ starting XI.

Eventually, Everton did find a way to stop Zaha. Having seen him complete an impressive three dribbles throughout the clash, the Palace winger was then fouled on three occasions by the home side. Only Jordan Ayew, Richarlison and Tom Davies won more free-kicks than Zaha.

Previously praised for his “excellent” performances by Palace manager Roy Hodgson, he will surely hope for a few similar displays from Zaha between now and the end of the campaign.

Richarlison betrayed Carlo Ancelotti’s praise with a wasteful performance as Everton were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Toffees are no longer in control of their hopes of a top-four finish, after being made to pay for a string of misses when Michy Batshuayi fired home with less than five minutes to play.

James Rodriguez had seemed set to inspire only Everton’s sixth Premier League win of the season at Goodison Park when he drilled home his fifth goal of the campaign on his return from a calf injury.

Richarlison and strike partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a hatful of efforts only to be denied by Vicente Guaita, with the result leaving Everton eighth in the table and five points below the Champions League positions.

A win over the Eagles would have seen the Blues move level on 49 points with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, and they will now strive to overtake their rivals into sixth place when Ancelotti’s men play their game in hand.

Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin will have left Goodison Park on Monday ruing their string of misses, which proved immensely costly for a Toffees side which has won just once in their last eight league fixtures on home soil.

Ancelotti had been full of praise for Richarlison’s efforts in front of the net of late, having seen the Brazilian strike six goals in five games across all competitions following February’s shock defeat to relegation-threatened Fulham.

Richarlison eventually won the argument but could only send the effort wide of the post, a moment which summed up a frustrating display from Everton’s £50m record signing.

Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has said that Mike Ashley will not give up ownership of Newcastle United unless he receives the right offer.

After a takeover approach failed last year (The Guardian), Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium have returned to try once more to buy the St James’ Park outfit.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips believes Ashley may well move on soon, but only for the right price. He said:

“It’s got to the point where you don’t even want to talk about it.

“It’s been on it’s been off it’s been on it’s been off. A club being taken over, as a supporter you just want it to happen. 

“No more so than with Newcastle. Ashley has spent a lot of money at that football club but now they want him out. 

“But he’s a businessman and he won’t go unless he gets the right amount of money and let’s hope this time if it gets back on, it gets done and the club can start to move on.”

Newcastle fans will now be reaching a point of desperation. Ashley is deeply unpopular among the majority of supporters at St James’ Park, and many are eager to see him depart. That looked close to happening last year, so they may not be too willing to get their hopes up just yet.

The takeover fee last summer was £300m, and you get the feeling that Ashley was happy to leave with that sum before the Premier League rejected the bid from Staveley’s consortium. Of course, with the reputation Ashley has as a hard-nosed businessman, he will only leave on his terms, but a repeat offer in that ballpark should hopefully do the trick.

A CBF estreou nesta quinta-feira um novo procedimento para o sorteio de arbitragem. A nova modalidade serviu para definir a escala de árbitros para os jogos da Série B.

No novo desenho do sorteio, a entidade define 15 árbitros – os considerados melhores disponíveis para a rodada em questão. Ao mesmo tempo, ela seleciona outros cinco para ficarem de suplentes, caso haja qualquer problema eventual após o sorteio.

Antes de definir quem apita qual jogo, a CBF numera os confrontos da rodada – no caso da Série B, de 1 a 10.Cada árbitro também tem um número, de 1 a 15, definido por ordem alfabética.

A partir daí, quatro árbitros são sorteados para cada partida, sendo alocados em colunas de 1 a 4. Então, um número (de 1 a 4) é sorteado e quem estiver na coluna correspondente apitará o jogo. Os árbitros não sorteados voltam ao globo e podem apitar algum jogo subsequente.

Há casos em que os árbitros não podem entrar nas colunas de determinados jogos. Um exemplo ocorrido nesta quinta-feira foi que André Luiz Castro, de Goiás, foi descartado ao ser sorteado para entrar na concorrência pelo jogo do Atlético-GO por ser do mesmo estado que o Dragão.
