أعلن نادي الهلال السعودي عن إقالة المدرب البرتغالي ليوناردو جارديم المدير الفني للفريق، وتعيين الأرجنتيني رامون دياز بدلًا منه في الفترة المقبلة.

وتعرض الهلال لهزيمة كبيرة أمام الأهلي بنتيجة 4-0، في مباراة تحديد المركز الثالث والرابع بمونديال الأندية.

وكشف الهلال عبر حسابه الرسمي على موقع “تويتر”: “قرر مجلس إدارة النادي برئاسـة فهد بن سعد بن نافل إنهاء العلاقة التعاقديـة مع مدير الجهاز الفني لفريق الهلال الأول لكرة القدم البرتغالي ليوناردو جارديم بالتراضي”.

وأضاف: “قدم المجلس شكره وتقديره لجارديم على ما قدمه طوال فترة عمله في النادي، متمنيًا له التوفيق في مسيرته العملية”.

وأعلن الهلال في تغريدة أخرى عن عودة رامون دياز المدير الفني السابق لنادي بيراميدز لقيادة الفريق السعودي رسميًا بعد رحيل جارديم.

Speaking in a football.london Q&A, reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has dropped an update involving Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter – with the journalist saying the Lilywhites have ‘definitely’ shown an interest.

Potter has been revered at times for his job on the English south coast this season and has even earned admirers like Man City manager Pep Guardiola (Brighton and Hove Independent).

Indeed, the 45-year-old has entered the Tottenham managerial shortlist as a result, with Gold recently backing reports that Spurs do hold an intrigue (football.london).

In an update, the journalist has dropped another claim on Potter, and while he believes that the Lilywhites ‘definitely’ have him on the radar, he could be a ‘tough sell’ to many supporters.

“He’s definitely one Spurs have looked at, particularly with his playing style,” explained Gold to football.london.

“However, with Brighton teetering above the drop zone, it might be a tough sell to many fans to replace Mourinho to bring in a man who steered a team to 17th (potentially) in the league.”

A notable dark horse for the job, you could argue Spurs need a more prestigious candidate than Potter despite his plaudits over 2020/2021.

Indeed, figures of the English media have branded him ‘excellent’ (via Miguel Delaney), but the Lilywhites should be looking for a manager with more experience at the top level.

As Julian Nagelsmann takes the job at Bayern Munich, it would appear Erik Ten Hag is the next best thing – especially considering he has drawn comparisons with Guardiola and has experience winning silverware.

It seems as if Eddie Howe’s proposed move to Celtic could be back on.

Reports had suggested that the 43-year-old was having second thoughts after verbally agreeing to become the new Hoops boss earlier this month.

However, the Scottish Daily Mail’s back page on Wednesday provided a positive development on the Englishman.

They claim that the available manager is ‘close to finalising an agreement to replace Neil Lennon’.

The report from Stephen McGowan added that Howe is now ‘piecing together’ his backroom team, although a move for Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes ‘hangs in the balance’.

To us, this latest development should be seen as a major boost. The fact that Howe is ‘piecing together’ his backroom staff could be taken that a deal is progressing nicely.

Howe’s representative insisted that he wouldn’t return to management until the summer, but,  that doesn’t rule out agreeing on a move to Parkhead ahead of the 2021/22 season and starting plans for a rebuild at Parkhead, even if the official gig does not begin until later.

Should all parties involved agree on a summer switch, that may give Howe the time required to look at the Hoops squad ahead of what could be a busy transfer window, with plenty of work required to transform a squad set to lose its leader, Scott Brown, into one capable of challenging Rangers next season.

Tottenham have joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign right-back Max Aarons this summer.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, cited by Football League World, and, as to be expected, Palace’s interest has had a number of Eagles fans talking on social media.

Aarons, on £17,000-a-week, helped Norwich City return to the top flight at the first time of asking this season.

He’s been linked with a number of sides recently, with Palace just one of a plethora of clubs who have asked to be kept informed of his situation.

Spurs have now joined the hunt for the 21-year-old though, with a club source claiming landing a new right-back is one of the club’s main priorities this summer.

Palace could also do with a new right-back ahead of the 2021/22 season, as their three right-backs on the books right now are all out of contract in a matter of months.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that Dejphon Chansiri has no choice but to take full responsibility following the Owls’ relegation from the Championship.

Despite giving it everything in their 3-3 draw with Derby County on the Championship’s final weekend, Wednesday were relegated to League One, finishing rock bottom in the table.

Since then, owner and chairman Chansiri has come out and told supporters that this disastrous season falls on him. And Palmer thinks it is only right, believing the buck stops with the businessman.

Speaking exclusively to TT about Wednesday’s relegation and Chansiri’s role in it, the retired midfielder said:

“People will say they were dealt a blow with the 12 points [deduction], but the 12 points got reduced to six points. I don’t think that’s an excuse.

“They just weren’t good enough, and the chairman has to take full responsibility. And I think he has done that, but it’s alright saying he takes full responsibility, you know, [but] what’s going to happen going forward?”

What Wednesday are going to do going forward is certainly an intriguing topic.

The Yorkshire club currently have a whole host of players who are set to become free agents this summer, which brings nothing but uncertainty at a very inconvenient time.
