Celtic: Charlie Wyke demands emerge

Football Insider have shared numerous demands Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke has made to Celtic ahead of a potential cut-price move to Parkhead.

The Lowdown: Wyke ‘very keen’

Wyke, who scored 30 goals in 53 appearances last season, is out of contract at the Stadium of Light in a matter of days.

The Hoops began talks with the 28-year-old last week, with a new forward the club’s priority.

Wyke was thought to be ‘very keen’ over a move to Glasgow, but a number of demands have now emerged regarding a possible Scotland switch.

The Latest: Wyke’s demands

According to Football Insider, who have been informed by a Celtic source, Wyke is holding out for a deal until 2025.

He’s on £6,400-a-week with Sunderland and reportedly wants his pack packet doubled, should he put pen to paper on a Celtic deal.

Finally, Wyke also wants a multi-million-pound signing-on fee.

The Verdict: What should McKay do?

With no director of football in place, you’d expect new CEO Dominic McKay would be leading discussions with Wyke.

There would be no transfer fee required, but with Wyke wanting a big signing-on fee and a possible £12,800-a-week long-term deal, a move could cost the Hoops over £2.5m in wages alone across the four years.

Wyke, who former Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson described as ‘excellent’, showed in League One that he can find the back of the net with ease, and with Odsonne Edouard still expected to leave the club, the Hoops may be happy to take a punt on Wyke despite being forced to pay a pretty penny for his services.

Gers set for Gilmour windfall

According to The Scottish Sun, Glasgow Rangers are set to receive £1m in add-ons from Billy Gilmour’s departure to Chelsea despite losing out on his loan signing to Norwich City.

The Lowdown: Gilmour closes in on Norwich

The Gers were said to be interested in taking Gilmour back to Ibrox on loan as Chelsea looked for him to spend the next year away from Stamford Bridge to continue his development (The Daily Record).

However, the Scotland international has now completed a move to the Canaries (Official), who were recently promoted to the Premier League.

The Latest: Gers set for windfall

For the Gers, though, there may be a silver lining.

Now, it has been said that Chelsea must pay Rangers £1m in add-ons after the 20-year-old met several targets thanks to his impressive performances for club and country.

A 7-figure fee could of course go a long way to boost Ross Wilson and co’s transfer dealings, with targets like Santos Borre soon to be a free agent so likely seeking a large signing bonus.

The Verdict: Clever

Of course, everyone at Rangers will have been gutted to lose Gilmour in 2017, when he was still just 15 years old. They only picked up £500,000 for selling him, which now looks like a bargain for Chelsea considering Gilmour has developed into a player who already has Premier League, Champions League and European Championships football under his belt.

However, they did at least guarantee they would receive some money should he prove to be a success. £1m could go a long way for the Gers. It remains to be seen whether the 55-time Scottish champions will receive any more funds on the back of Gilmour’s showings in the future.

AVFC: McNeil emerges as Smith Rowe alternative

Aston Villa may move for Burnley winger Dwight McNeil this summer, according to The Athletic’s Gregg Evans.

The Lowdown: Previous links

This isn’t the first time McNeil has been linked with a move to the Midlands.

Back in May, Football Insider suggested that Villa were lining up a £15m offer for the player who Sean Dyche described as ‘very adaptable’.

Rumours of a move have since gone quiet, with Villa signing Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City in a deal worth £34.56m.

McNeil’s name has once again popped up in discussion when it comes to Villa’s transfer business.

The Latest: Evans claim

Evans shared a transfer update on Friday. Within his story, he claimed that a number 10 is still a priority for Villa.

A move for Tammy Abraham is not on the cards at this moment in time, with Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe a priority target.

Evans then added that if a move for Smith Rowe fails to materialise, McNeil may be looked at as an alternative. The 21-year-old has already been discussed as a player of interest and is valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt.

The Verdict: Grealish central?

Should Villa end up signing McNeil over Smith Rowe, that could mean Jack Grealish would have to move in from the left to a more central role.

Manchester City are preparing a bid for Grealish, however, Villa are determined to keep hold of their club captain.

If they do succeed and stand firm, Grealish could take up the number 10 position, with McNeil an out and out left-winger, and Buendia on the right.

Villa aren’t done with their summer business by any stretch of the imagination, and it’s good to see that Smith Rowe alternatives are being lined up.
