Rangers: Fans delighted with Ryan Jack’s display

Glasgow Rangers fans were absolutely delighted with the display of Ryan Jack for Scotland against Israel on Wednesday.

The Tartan Army were beaten 1-0 away from home, meaning they failed to earn promotion in the UEFA Nations League. However, despite the defeat, the Ibrox midfielder was in top form for his country. He completed 96% of his passes, and lost the ball on just three occasions throughout the clash.

With the international break now over, the 28-year-old will return to the Gers, and Steven Gerrard will be hoping he can continue this stunning form at club level as Rangers go for their first piece of major silverware since 2011.

Rangers fans may not have the best relationship with the national side, but they were delighted with Jack’s display against Israel. They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his showing.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Jack below

In other news, Glasgow Rangers fans had plenty of praise for this club icon.

Celtic news: Lennon eyeing transfer for £13.6m-rated Serie A defender

The summer transfer window across most leagues is only now starting to heat up and we’re still waiting for Celtic to sail right into it with a bombastic transfer of their own. However, at the moment, it does seem like Neil Lennon is mostly focused on boosting his defensive line and there are a couple of options laid in front of him.

According to the latest updates from the Italian paper Calciomercato, the Bhoys are one of the teams that are showing interest in Sampdoria’s Omar Colley. The defender still has two years left on his contract, which might end up affecting the price in some capacity, but it is understood the Serie A side would want to get around €15m (£13.6m) for him.

This, of course, means he wouldn’t exactly be a cheap option but he is quite a wanted man. The same source claims Premier League teams like Newcastle United and Burnley might also be on his tail and this could indeed make matters more complicated for Lennon himself.

Still, in the past, Colley has drawn comparisons with Kalidou Koulibaly and this would indicate there is indeed quality in the player. The 27-year-old has had quite a rollercoaster of a career but a move to the Scottish Premier League could represent another challenge for the combative Gambian footballer.

But we’ll have to wait and see whether Lennon decides to pull the trigger and then if he does, will it be enough to beat other rivals to the punch.

Verdict

Of course, Colley might not be anywhere near Koulibaly’s quality but he does seem like someone who could offer a decent amount to Celtic in their chase of domestic dominance.

The price is also quite high for a player with two years left on his contract but that is not surprising given that there seems to be quite a lot of interest for the 27-year-old.

Sheffield United: Blades reportedly not the favourites for Rhian Brewster anymore

Sheffield United have been heavily linked with Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster as they continue to hunt for a new striker. However supporters might not be happy to see the latest news which suggests they could miss out on the player.

According to The Daily Mail, fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace are now the favourites to sign the young forward. Brewster has been a permanent transfer target for Palace and Sheffield United this summer, while West Brom have also been keen to sign 20-year-old the on loan.

They go on to say that Liverpool are willing to strike a deal with Palace, but are demanding a buy-back option and sell-on clause for £20m-rated Brewster, and this suggests the Blades might have to move elsewhere.

With Lys Mousset out with a toe injury with an unknown return date, the club currently have 32 year-old David McGoldrick, 34 year-old Billy Sharp, as well as Oliver McBurnie and they could also use Oliver Burke up front.

Excluding new signing Burke, the three forwards who aren’t injured managed 11 league goals between them last term, with McBurnie getting six, per WhoScored.

Despite it being the division below, Brewster made 22 appearances on loan at Championship side Swansea City last season and scored 11 goals, whilst averaging 2.4 shots on target per game, via WhoScored, and this along with the fact he won the Golden Boot for the U17 England World Cup winning side highlights why the Blades are very keen to sign him.

Despite their top ten finish last season, the fact they might either be out priced for the striker or he might have picked Palace will come as frustration for Chris Wilder, and with only two weeks left of the transfer window, it might be best for the club to start looking at alternatives.

Liverpool: Predicted XI to take on Arsenal as Reds push for 100-point finish

Liverpool have been set back in their mission to secure a 100-point season following their draw against Burnley.

The Clarets will be thrilled to come away with a point, but Jurgen Klopp’s side must now bank seven points out of their remaining three fixtures. They will resume their Premier League run against Arsenal at the Emirates, but a loss will cost them a potential centurion status.

Transfer Tavern has predicted how the title winners might set up against the Gunners, including three changes from their last time out…

Although Neco Williams put in a solid shift against Burnley, it’s likely Klopp may want to field his usual, senior back four when they face Arsenal. Trent Alexander-Arnold was benched in favour of the rising youngster, which could have put him in a mindset to return to pitch and show why he shouldn’t be dropped again. Reds fans will hope he can contribute to a clean sheet against a side eager to climb up the table.

Curtis Jones enjoyed his first Premier League start at the weekend, but along with midfield teammate, £36m-valued Gini Wijnaldum, neither set the match alight with their performances (via Sofascore). The return of Naby Keita, who has assisted twice since the restart, and the attacking flair of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could make for an exciting display.

Klopp’s front three will more than likely remain the same, with goals a must and Mohamed Salah also bidding for the Golden Boot. As it stands, he is on 19 goals for the season with Jamie Vardy extending his lead on 23 (via BBC Sport). The Egyptian will hoping for maximum service from the midfield so he can close the gap between him and Leicester’s talisman.

Manchester United: Jadon Sancho’s potential transfer to Old Trafford is a ‘poker game’ according to Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United target Jadon Sancho will still be a Borussia Dortmund player next season, according to the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.

The 11-cap England international right winger has rejoined his Bundesliga teammates for their pre-season training camp in Switzerland, reports say.

Dortmund had issued an ultimatum insisting a deal should be sorted out by August 10 to avoid any interruption to their camp and to give them time to find a replacement.

As it stands, the German club’s deadline has now passed, and Zorc seemed to suggest that Sancho will be staying at the Signal Iduna Park for the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, telling reporters on Monday “we plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.”

He went on to add “last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed that, while there is “no agreement reached” between the two clubs, talks are ongoing, and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

The Italian transfer guru added this is a “normal” situation while both clubs remain embroiled in a “poker game” that has shown no signs of ending anytime soon.

It is worth remembering Dortmund have been here before. Zorc came unstuck after saying the same thing about Ousmane Dembele, as the French international ended up leaving the club after just one season for Barcelona.

There was always bound to be plenty of plotting, scheming and double-bluffing on both sides because there’s an awful lot of money involved.

Lucien Favre’s side are looking for at least £108m for the club’s top scorer last season, but the United board believe this is unrealistic, given the current circumstances.

Transfers of this size and scale are no easy task and it can take a great deal of time to reach an amenable resolution as a result.

Dortmund have drawn a line in the sand which means it is up to Ed Woodward to sort out a deal that is satisfactory by all accounts.

While some will be concerned it seems as though the ongoing transfer saga has taken a turn for the worse, it appears they are still locked in negotiations. Man United must meet their demands if they want to prise Sancho away from the Westfalenstadion this summer.

Aston Villa winger Andre Green has been linked with a quartet of clubs

A quartet of clubs are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa winger Andre Green on a permanent basis, according to Football Insider.

What’s the story?

The winger has been linked with Brentford, Stuttgart, Utrecht and Zulte Waregem, as he enters the final six months of his Villa contract.

This interest comes despite Green having been rarely seen during his loan spell at Preston North End this season, making just four substitute appearances in the Championship, totalling 86 minutes.

In addition to this, he has been on the pitch for just one solitary minute in the last 14 games, failing to even make the bench in 12 of those.

It has been suggested that Villa could terminate this loan, which will likely have piqued the interest of the aforementioned clubs.

Untarnished reputation

The interest being shown in Green should be seen as massively encouraging for the 21-year-old, as it highlights that this current spell has not tarnished his reputation – albeit, it hasn’t grown either.

The lack of game time will have negatively impacted his development as a player, as he looks to continue progressing his game.

He has come up with moments of quality though, as highlighted by his volley in the Carabao Cup against Bradford City this campaign, while he also got an important equaliser against Sheffield United last term.

Red Herring or Real Hero: Only hardcore Villa fans will get all of them right….

The youngster also has very strong dribbling ability, as well as having aerial duels and crossing among his other strengths, which can make him a useful asset for prospective clubs.

This period will have been a source of frustration for the Villa man, but it will be a big boost for him to see he is still attracting interest from significant clubs, including ones from the Dutch and Belgian’s top flights.

Green may manage to escape his tough situation at Preston without perceptions over his potential changing for the worse, and potentially even earn a move that can kickstart his career.

In other news, one Aston Villa player was looking very suspect against Liverpool.

Glasgow Rangers: Kenny McLean confirms previous Gers talks

Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean confirms that Glasgow Rangers were interested in his services when he was at Aberdeen, but that nothing concrete came of it.

The £3.15m-valued 28-year-old – as per Transfermarkt – was an important part of the Dons’ squad during his time at the club, making 152 appearances in all competitions. In 2018, he made the move to the Canaries for £203,000, and has since gone on to feature 54 times, including on 28 occasions in the Premier League this season alone.

Speaking to Open Goal, he discusses the previous interest from the Gers, saying:

“It could have been. There was talk a couple of times about Rangers, but nothing ever came of it. Nothing was ever in front of me, even when I was out of contract at Aberdeen, I had six months left on my deal and there were talks but nothing too big to be honest with you, nothing for me to get excited about, because there was nothing ever in front of me.

“I don’t know if it was Graeme Murty in charge at the time when I was leaving Aberdeen, but they didn’t look to have any stability at the club. Obviously, since Gerrard has come in, it seems to have changed a little.”

Given that the 10-time Scotland international has now been able to put together a solid career in England, it seems that the Gers missed out on a player that could have been useful to them. Whilst not the most prolific scorer at Pittodrie, he still managed 25 goals, which equates to between five and 10 strikes each campaign.

When he made the move to Carrow Road, he was effectively a free agent, as well – Norwich paid the aforementioned fee to sign immediately in January, but they could have waited six months and not paid a penny. It is perhaps a deal the Gers should have looked into more.

Aston Villa fans feel Jack Grealish deserves more respect for his achievements

Jack Grealish’s quality was embodied by his goal against Manchester United, as he ghosted past Andreas Pereira, before curling a wonderful effort into the top corner, outside of David de Gea’s reach.

He continued to be trouble for the Red Devils’ defence, as signified by the fact he was fouled seven times, more than in any other league match this campaign.

Though it is his productivity that has caught the eye, as it has been reported that he has now made more goal contributions than any other English midfielder in the Premier League.

Many Villa fans have taken pride in the way their talisman has performed since playing an integral role in their play-off winning campaign.

The 24-year-old’s transition has been a seamless one, as signified by the number of goals he has been directly involved in, while also averaging 1.3 tackles, 2.7 tackles and 1.7 key passes per game.

With this considered, there has been great enjoyment from some fans in reminding those of other clubs that they have been underestimating him.

However, there is also annoyance there for many within their fanbase, who feel that he has been unjustly ignored by Gareth Southgate this season.

Especially after discovering he has more goal contributions than any other English midfielder in the league, they feel his talents should be recognised with a call up to the national team.

The Villa man represented England U21s seven times, scoring twice, but is still yet to make his debut for the senior side.

Liverpool fans buzzing for Curtis Jones after he makes Premier League debut

Liverpool’s match against AFC Bournemouth was a highly encouraging one, as they got another three points on the board with a 3-0 win.

This also saw the team keep their first clean sheet in 15 games across all competitions, something that will have brought plenty of relief to Jurgen Klopp.

However, it is highly unlikely there are too many who are more pleased than Curtis Jones following the match, as it marked the 18-year-old’s Premier League debut.

The teenager replaced Andrew Robertson in the 76th minute, adding to his two Carabao Cup appearances this season, which included the winning penalty to beat Arsenal in a shoot out.

There were plenty of Liverpool fans who were delighted for the homegrown talent, with many of them offering their congratulations.

His career won’t be stopping here though in their minds, as they feel he can go on to do great things, with one fan adding that he has a “big Reds future ahead”.

The main way things could have been better for the academy graduate, who stands at 6 foot 1, is if he had managed to get onto the scoresheet.

He did come close to doing that when Xherdan Shaqiri’s cross fell to him, but he was unable to get his volley on target.

Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…

In their live blog, The Telegraph expressed that the effort showed “great ambition and confidence from the young man”, while a fan described it as a “lovely attempt at goal”.

Liverpool fans laud Georginio Wijnaldum for performance vs KRC Genk

Many Liverpool fans have been lauding Georginio Wijnaldum on social media for his ‘amazing’ performance against KRC Genk in the Champions League.

The Dutch midfielder has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s most frequently called upon options this season, with Wijnaldum playing the fifth-highest number of minutes among the Reds squad in the Premier League.

He has also now started two of their four Champions League group stage ties this term, and marked his latest outing with the opening goal on Tuesday night.

Every Premier League club’s WORST player is named and shamed in the video below…

Wijnaldum’s strike in the 14th-minute came as he prodded the ball into the roof of the net from close range, when Genk captain Sebastian Dewaest failed to clear James Milner’s low cross.

Opening the scoring also meant that three of Wijnaldum’s last four goals for Liverpool have come in the Champions League, following the £75,000-per-week midfielder’s brace in the semi-final second-leg comeback win against Barcelona in May.

Tuesday night’s encounter with Genk was not an affair which the Dutchman only had a goal to show for his efforts, either, as fans have lauded the 28-year-old for helping to set the pace against the Belgian side.

Wijnaldum recorded 68 touches at Anfield, from which he played 52 passes, delivered one key ball, made three successful dribbles and took a total of two shots, per WhoScored data.

Of his 52 passes, 25 were also marked as being forward balls, with 15 of those coming in the final third.

Here are some of the messages shared on his performance…
