Kulusevski could push Alli out at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici is eyeing a transfer reunion with one of his former signings…

What’s the word?

According to the Mirror, the north London outfit are considering a move for Juventus attacking midfielder Dejan Kulusevski this January as the Italian supremo looks to bolster Nuno Santo’s playing squad.

Spurs have already sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old Sweden international this season and they will continue to monitor his situation in Turin ahead of a potential winter swoop.

It remains to be seen how much Kulusevski would command, having cost the Serie A giants around €35m (£29.8m) in 2019. Transfermarkt currently value him at £36m.

Alli at risk

One of the biggest issues facing Nuno and his struggling Spurs side is the creation of chances and some big names like Dele Alli have completely failed to help the new manager.

Prior to their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby at the weekend, the Lilywhites had the lowest expected goals total (4.42 xG) of any team in the English top-flight, whilst they also ranked second-last for total shots at goal (46), as per The Athletic.

Alli, who provided 18 goals and seven assists in 2016/17, has failed to replicate such heights in recent years, recording just one assist so far from six league starts – the same he managed throughout the entire duration of last term.

In fact, he’s yet to record a key pass in the Premier League, which is certainly worrying.

If Paratici were to sign Kulusevski from Juventus in January, then Nuno may well be able to make a quick alteration to his attacking midfield department.

He is a player that the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo once dubbed a “great talent” with “great potential”, whilst Italian coach Pierpaolo Bisoli has previously described him as a “young [Mo] Salah.”

These glowing endorsements should provide plenty of encouragement in why Spurs might be interested in one of Paratici’s former signings, if his numbers didn’t already do that.

The 16-cap sensation delivered seven goals and seven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last season. He may have only started 19 times in the Italian top-flight but Kulusevski still averaged 1.5 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per outing, via WhoScored.

Also lauded as “explosive” by former Aston Villa striker Marcus Allback, the out-of-favour Juventus star could well be exactly what Nuno needs to add to his attack this winter. Paratici must do all he can to secure him.

AND in other news, Nuno has a rare “diamond” at Spurs who’s just like Rashford, fans should be excited…

Pundit not shocked by Liverpool’s interest in Harvey Barnes

Former Leicester City defender Steve Howey is not surprised that Liverpool took an interest in Foxes winger Harvey Barnes during the transfer window.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admired Barnes for some time, with reports suggesting the then-Premier League champions were mulling over a move last year.

Following a disappointing campaign which saw the Reds relinquish their hold on the title, Liverpool were linked with the 23-year-old once again this summer.

It came after Barnes scored 13 goals before a knee injury halted his progress last season.

But the winger, who boasts one England cap, ended speculation over his future by penning a new four-year deal with Leicester last month.

Having returned from injury, Barnes has started all four of the Foxes’ fixtures so far this season, including the Community Shield triumph over Manchester City.

Howey believes Liverpool will keep tabs on Barnes despite extending his contract and has claimed he would be an exciting signing for the Reds.

He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern: “Their interest doesn’t surprise me. Without a doubt, Jurgen Klopp would have been looking around to see what he could do to add to his squad.

“I think Harvey Barnes would have been a good acquisition.”

Celtic: Anthony Ralston in line to return

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is set to welcome back Anthony Ralston against Real Betis on Thursday, according to Scott Burns of The Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Ralston under Postecoglou

The 22-year-old has been one of Celtic’s best-rated performers under Postecoglou, as per WhoScored, with an average match rating of 8.38/10.

He’s netted twice in the Scottish Premiership and has also registered an assist but missed his first game of the 2021/22 campaign against Ross County on the weekend.

It looks like he’ll be back for the Hoops’ opening Europa League group game against Real Betis, though.

The Latest: Ralston update

Burns shared an update on Monday evening regarding Ralston, while all but ruling out Taylor for Betis after revealing he has been sent to an injury specialist regarding his shoulder issue.

When it came to Ralston, though, Burns said the right-back is back in full training and will be available for the trip to Spain.

The Verdict: Good news

Postecoglou has had two injury blows recently in Taylor and Kyogo Furuhashi, so it’s a welcome boost to know that Ralston’s absence will only be a short one.

Should he return to the starting line up, Postecoglou could use summer signing Josip Juranovic at left-back and Ralston on the right side, as he did against Rangers.

Youngster Adam Montgomery replaced Taylor at Parkhead on the weekend, so at least Postecoglou will have options against the La Liga side.

Liverpool fans love Diogo Jota update

Some Liverpool supporters have been reacting to the news that Diogo Jota has been working with a former sprinter ahead of the new season.

The Reds had a season to forget in 2020/21, even though they ended up securing a third-place finish in the Premier League.

In a campaign full of problems, Jota was one of the positives, enjoying a good first season at Anfield which saw him score 13 goals in 30 appearances.

The Portuguese made an immediate impression at his new club, and had it not been for a three-month injury layoff, the 24-year-old would arguably have had an even bigger influence for the Reds.

According to The Daily Mail [via Anfield Watch on Twitter], Jota has been training with former Olympic medal-winning sprinter Francis Obikwelu in order to make a flying start to the new season. The forward was already known for his superb pace, and this attribute could be even further embellished as a result of his training with Obikwelu.

West Ham linked with Leeds target Nandez

West Ham have emerged as contenders to snap up rumoured Leeds United target Nahitan Nandez this summer, as the battle to sign him goes on.

The Lowdown: Constant Nandez rumours

The Whites have been endlessly linked with a summer move for the Cagliari midfielder, with his future still very much up in the air.

A switch to Inter Milan has been mooted, too, with the Uruguayan looking likely to leave his current club, while the Yorkshire outfit seek an additional midfielder to add quality and depth behind Kalvin Phillips – Lewis O’Brien has also been linked.

The Latest: Fresh update emerges

According to Calciomercato [via Sport Witness], West Ham are also eyeing up a move for Nandez, who has won 41 caps for Uruguay to date.

Leeds’ interest is still mentioned as well, though, with the report stating that ‘Leeds are ready to return’ for the 25-year-old.

Cagliari are thought to be willing to drop Nandez’s release clause from €36million (£30.7) to €25-26million (£21.3m-22.1m), acting as a boost to those chasing his signature.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-12/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Leeds must win the battle

Nandez, who currently earns £42,000 per week, has shone in Serie A in the last two seasons, scoring four goals and registering five assists from a defensive midfield role, shining in front of the back four with a career average of two tackles per game.

He has the quality to come in and make a sizeable difference to Leeds’ midfield, dovetailing with Phillips and making them even more formidable.

Fans would likely love his feistiness too – the tackling prowess and 16 yellow cards in the last two league campaigns suggest he has the makings of a cult hero at Elland Road.

It looks set to be a real battle to sign Nandez, but the Whites must do all they can to bring him in.

In other news, it looks unlikely that a deal for a rumoured Leeds target will go through. Find out who it is here.

LFC fans bemoan journalist’s Chiesa update

A number of Liverpool supporters have bemoaned Fabrizio Romano’s update on the Reds’ hopes of signing Italy star Federico Chiesa.

Jurgen Klopp is hopefully eyeing up another attacking signing this summer, in order to make his squad even more formidable.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino will all be vying for regular starts next season, but an additional top-class option wouldn’t go amiss, with the former two set to be absent for AFCON 2022 in January.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

One player who Liverpool have been linked with is Chiesa, who enjoyed an outstanding Euro 2020 campaign with Italy, winning the competition and scoring twice.

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, however, the Reds will not be signing the on-loan Juventus winger.

He is deemed ‘untouchable’ at the Serie A club and there ‘no chance’ of Liverpool bringing him to the club this summer.

Crystal Palace: Fans erupt over Clyne deal

Crystal Palace confirmed on Friday evening that Nathaniel Clyne has re-joined the club after penning a one-year deal at Selhurst Park.

As to be expected, a number of Eagles supporters were quick to share their thoughts at the news via social media.

Clyne was one of 11 senior Palace players who became a free agent on July 1 but now joins fellow right-back Joel Ward in extending his stay in south London.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 151 Palace appearances across his two stints at the club, 14 of which came last season under Roy Hodgson.

Clyne, who was actually spotted training with the club at St George’s Park back in July, will give Patrick Vieira a third right-back option ahead of the new campaign alongside Ward and Martin Kelly.

Palace fans react

Palace shared the news about Clyne on their official Twitter page, and here is what these Eagles fans had to say in reply, with many delighted by the update and one labelling the deal as ‘excellent news’.

Pundit urges James to stay at Everton despite Ancelotti exit

Michael Ball has called on James Rodriguez to stay at Goodison Park for one more season and not follow Carlo Ancelotti out of Everton.

James joined the Toffees from Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer, linking up with Ancelotti for a third time having previously played under the Italian at the Bernabeu and during a loan spell with Bayern Munich.

The Colombia international, who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, confirmed playing under Ancelotti again was a key reason behind his switch to Goodison Park.

However, Ancelotti has left Everton in favour of a return to Real Madrid this summer, leading to doubts over James’ future on Merseyside.

Reports suggest new Toffees chief Rafa Benitez is open to allowing James to depart, with the club looking to get high-earners off the wage bill.

James’ £90,000-per-week contract still has 12 months to run, although there is an option to extend it by another 12 months.

Despite being restricted to just 26 appearances last term, former Everton full-back Ball hopes the 30-year-old will still be on the club’s books when the transfer window shuts at the end of next month.

Speaking exclusively to the Football FanCast, Ball said: “He’s such a fantastic talent and is head and shoulders the best player on the pitch every time he’s on there.

“But, unfortunately, he only seems to play when he is 110 per cent fit.

“He’s loved here and I’d love him to stay. I think the majority of Everton fans would love him to stay. We’d like him to stay one more year. If he carries on the form he showed last year and plays more games, the Everton fans would be really happy with that.”

West Ham enter Kamara transfer race

West Ham are the latest team to be linked with a move for Glen Kamara this summer…

What’s the word?

According to GIVEMESPORT, sources close to the 25-year-old’s situation have confirmed there is interest from several Premier League clubs, including the Irons.

The likes of Watford, Everton, Arsenal and Brentford are said to have touched base with the Rangers midfielder’s representatives over a potential switch this transfer window.

It’s thought that the Scottish champions would want around £10m to let the Finland international leave Ibrox, as per the Daily Mail.

Forget Kral

The Hammers have been linked to several central midfield options in recent months but perhaps the most notable name has been Czech sensation Alex Kral, who has been playing alongside Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal at Euro 2020.

However, his performances have been hugely underwhelming and considering he’s likely to cost three times as much as Kamara, it would be a wise move for David Moyes to turn his attentions to the Gers star instead.

He’s a very viable alternative, too.

Kamara was one of Steven Gerrard’s best performers as the Teddy Bears recorded a historic league triumph. No outfield player managed a better average passing accuracy per game (90.5) than the 5 foot 11 dynamo, which suggests he’s a very composed player on the ball.

Furthermore, he also averaged one tackle. 0.9 interceptions and 0.9 key passes per league outing, via WhoScored.

Kamara has been touted as one of the best talents north of the border by ex-Gers ace Charlie Miller.

“Glen Kamara is the best midfielder in Scotland.

“He has the ability to go and play at a very high level. He is athletic, technically very good, is good in the tackle and is becoming a complete player. Maybe he could do to add a few more goals but he certainly assists in that area.

“Put it this way, there are players going for £30-£40million in England who couldn’t lace Kamara’s boots.”

Also lauded as a “special talent” by his former Dundee boss Neil McCann, the 25-year-old maestro could be a bargain squad depth option for Moyes to get his hands on ahead of next season.

One injury to either Soucek or Declan Rice would spell trouble, so the Scotsman certainly needs another addition in the role. For just £10m, it has to be a no-brainer.

Graham Roberts urges Tottenham to pay £45m for Conor Coady

Following the announcement of Nuno Espirito Santo being appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager, attentions have now turned to what system he will use and the signings he could look to make, and Spurs legend Graham Roberts would go all out to sign Wolves defender Conor Coady.

When Nuno was appointed as Wolves manager back in 2017 he moved Coady from the centre of midfield into the middle of a back three and has never looked back, even earning himself several England caps and call-ups.

Therefore, reports have suggested that Nuno will look to link up once again with the defender who served him so well during his time at Molineux making 158 appearances in the league under the new Spurs manager.

Check out the latest Football Manager 2022 news, features, steam keys, wonderkids, release dates and everything we know on the GMS hub

It would be a signing that made sense as Nuno and Coady clearly work well together and Spurs are in need of a leader at the back, someone who will organise the defence and hold people accountable, and that’s why Roberts would pay up to £45 million for the defender, as he spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“If he costs you £45 million then you go and buy him because that’s what he costs. You’re not going to get players like Conor Coady for £11 million.

“He’s a good talker and that’s what we don’t have in the team, we don’t have any talkers and he’s also a leader.”

Coady was signed during Wolves’ time spent in the Championship so he has been with the fans during their whole experience of rising from the second tier all the way to qualifying for the Europa League.
