James Bracey leads Gloucestershire cruise to keep quarter-final hopes alive

Bracey hits 64 to chase down Hampshire’s 139 after bowlers find rewards by taking the pace off

Gloucestershire overcame Hampshire on a slow, sluggish Bristol wicket to go fourth in the Vitality Blast South Group, thanks to a canny bowling performance and an impressive 64 from James Bracey. With Rilee Rossouw (ill), Brad Taylor and Mason Crane (both side strains) all missing, Hampshire looked light on batting at the toss, and so it proved. After Aneurin Donald’s eyecatching innings had taken them to 54 for 1 after the powerplay, their innings fell away horribly as Tom Smith found purchase on a turgid pitch, and their seamers used their usual variety of slower balls and cutters.A target of 140 was never likely to be easy to defend, and after a cautious first four overs of the chase, the fifth broke its back and meant Gloucestershire could stay in third gear for the remainder. The beneficiary of those absentees was Ryan Stevenson, the redhead seamer who came in for his first game of the Blast season, but he must have wished he had spent the night in the dugout as usual. His first ball would have seen Michael Klinger caught behind but for an umpiring error, and things quickly got worse. Klinger chipped a six over midwicket, then got off strike with a three; Stevenson threw in two wides, was smashed for four twice by Bracey, including once off a no-ball, and then had him out caught off the free hit. One last boundary followed, meaning 25 had come off it, and the asking rate shot down to below six. From that point, Hampshire were toast, as Bracey and Klinger knocked the ball around easily with little pressure on them to score. This was Klinger’s highest T20 score in just under a year – the situation could hardly have suited him better. This pitch had seen Gloucestershire only squeeze past Kent’s 125 for 8 last week, and from the moment David Payne started to bowl his cutters in the game’s third over, it seemed clear that this pitch would suit their attack. The conditions could only have been more perfect if they had been able to call upon the services of Benny Howell, who will miss the rest of the season after injuring his hamstring diving in the field against Surrey last week.As cover, Gloucestershire brought in Zak Chappell on loan from Nottinghamshire, the young fast bowler with a big future and an even bigger reported salary. He struck early to dismiss James Vince – who he gave a roaring send-off – but proved the most expensive bowler on show; perhaps he was overzealous in his efforts to impress after an underwhelming debut season at Trent Bridge.Hampshire’s selection – while hampered by injury – looked particularly strange when Chris Morris strode out to bat at number five. It was just the 14th time that Morris had batted in the top five in a T20, despite his 180 matches, and he struggled badly to eke out an unbeaten 18 off 24 balls. That they left out Tom Alsop, while having seven bowling options, seemed curious. This was the sort of surface on which Gloucestershire tend to thrive, and it was apparent that Andrew Tye’s influence in his several stints as an overseas player has extended beyond just his wickets. Chris Liddle spoke at the interval about the work the club’s seamers do with one another to develop more slower balls and variations, and he, Tye, and Payne went for just 78 from their 12 overs; Ryan Higgins, so impressive in the win at Surrey, never even made it into the attack. At the interval, it had looked clear that Liam Dawson would be the key man if Hampshire were to come close, but by the time he came on the asking rate had already fallen to 5.46. He was characteristically frugal, but the game was effectively up by the time he had the opportunity to influence it.Bracey, who has quietly impressed for the best part of three seasons in the Championship, has only recently nailed down a spot in Gloucestershire’s T20 side, but shone with a mature innings in the chase. He was particularly impressive combating the fiery Morris, nailing an early cover drive and pulling him for four in his second spell. He was a recent call-up for the England Lions, and at 22 looks like an old-school batsman with serious promise.”I’m really pleased with how we’ve come back from a defeat,” he told Sky. “We just wanted to take the initiative with the new ball, which slid onto the bat nicely. It came off for us and made it easier for us at the back end. I’ve started to find my feet in the last few games, so it’s good to play a match-winning knock.”Gloucestershire’s campaign thus far has been a stop-start affair, with two no-results and a tie in their first four games keeping them in the bunch of teams competing for the quarter-finals. But with three wins in their last four – and a trip to fourth-placed Somerset on Friday night looming – they are now set to be part of the South Group’s qualification narrative.

Celtic could land dream O’Riley replacement in £3m Bernardo rival

It looked set to be a nervous end to the transfer window for those of a Celtic persuasion, with speculation rife regarding the future of emerging talisman, Matt O'Riley, amid significant interest in the silky playmaker.

It was only six months ago that the Old Firm giants were forced to sanction the £25m sale of fan favourite Jota to Saudi Arabian side, Al Ittihad, with fears that history could repeat itself if O'Riley were to be poached over the coming days.

The former MK Dons man – who arrived on a bargain £1.5m deal back in January 2022 – has been the subject of interest from La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid, the Daily Mail reporting on Wednesday that the Spanish side were hoping to land the Denmark international on an initial loan deal that would include a £20m obligation to buy in the summer.

That report also suggested that a number of Premier League clubs could seek to rival that interest over the next week or so, albeit with Brendan Rodgers since quashing those claims after offering assurances that he will stay put – having rejected a proposal from Atleti.

Even if the 23-year-old – who was the subject of a £10m bid from Leeds United over the summer – does not depart before the close of the window, however, there would be an expectation that an exit will occur come the end of the season for the "best player in Scotland" at present, as described by former Celtic boss, Neil Lennon.

With that in mind, the Premiership side should already be contemplating how they can replace O'Riley in the centre of the park, be it in January or over the summer, ensuring they should step up their interest in one notable target.

Celtic could land £3m O'Riley replacement

A report from Football Scotland back in December revealed that the Glasgow side were 'considering a move' for Ivorian youngster, Romeo Amane, with the club having sent scouts to watch the Hacken midfielder in action in the Europa League against Qarabag.

Those at Parkhead were seemingly impressed with what they saw as the 20-year-old was 'fast-tracked up the shortlist' by the club's hierarchy, with Celtic able to get their man for a reported fee of just £3m this month.

The Hoops were previously linked with an interest in the impressive forward.

ByDan Emery Jan 25, 2024

A more recent update from the same publication claimed that the 5 foot 7 dynamo is now more likely to be a summer target for Rodgers and Co, with the club perhaps prioritising other areas of weakness, such as in attack and at left-back.

Whether that situation changes in the event of an immediate O'Riley exit remains to be seen, although Amane could represent a dream replacement for the London-born magician in the champions' midfield ranks.

Romeo Amane's style of play

There may be those thinking that Celtic could already have a ready-made replacement for the in-demand O'Riley in the form of Paulo Bernardo, with the Portuguese gem having begun to find his feet in Scottish football, with four goals and assists from his last three league outings.

That has come with the 22-year-old operating alongside O'Riley, rather than in place of him, however, in the absence of Reo Hatate, ensuring that a replacement for the one-time Fulham youth asset may still need to be found.

Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo.

Equally, with Bernardo only on an initial loan from Benfica, there is no guarantee that he will follow the path of compatriot, Jota, and sign permanently at the end of the season, again opening up the possibility that a figure like Amane will need to be brought in.

While the latter man is a relatively unknown quantity, his sparkling talent was only recently recognised as he was included alongside Odin Thiago Holm in the European Golden Boy award list for 2023 – a list containing the best U21 talents across the continent.

Although the Ivorian is a far more diminutive presence than the 6 foot 2 O'Riley, he appears to share the Celtic man's knack for impacting play at the top end of the pitch, scoring four goals and contributing six assists in 61 games for the Swedish side to date.

That return may be a long way from the Atleti target's 46 goal involvements in 101 outings for the Bhoys, yet with Amane three years younger than the man he could replace, there is certainly room for him to develop under the watchful eye of a figure like Rodgers.

Matt O'Riley's season by numbers

There is no denying that O'Riley's will be difficult shoes to fill, with the one-cap Denmark international having scored ten goals and registered seven assists in just 21 league games this season, having also notably contributed to three assists in just six Champions League group stage appearances.

As Lennon noted, the £14k-per-week ace has "proven himself at the highest level" in Europe's elite competition, with it no surprise that clubs across the continent are now glancing his way.

What is most impressive about Celtic's number 33 is his creative prowess, as he has created six 'big chances' for his teammates in the Premiership this season, as well as averaging 2.6 key passes per game, as per Sofascore.

That is a lot to live up to, although Amane has shown signs that he is on the right path, having created three 'big chances' and averaged 1.4 key passes in 2023 in the Swedish top-flight, while his pass accuracy rate of 86% was actually ahead of O'Riley's (86%).

Such composure on the ball has also married nicely with his work out of possession, with the promising maestro averaging 1.8 tackles and interceptions per game in the Allsvenskan as well as recovering 5.3 balls per game. O'Riley, for context, is only just ahead in that regard, having averaged 2.6 and 6.7 for those same two metrics, respectively.

Celtic'sMattO'Riley

Of course, plucking Amane from Sweden may represent something of a gamble, while there may be those demanding a more proven option, yet it was certainly a risk securing O'Riley from England's third tier – a risk that has more than paid off.

The ideal scenario would be that the latter man stays put beyond this month and beyond the summer window to remain as the figurehead under Rodgers, although if a looming exit does occur, Amane would represent a worthy replacement.

Tony Palladino bowls Derbyshire back into the match with 3 for 3

Visitors bowled out for 139 but 35-year-old seamer puts them back on track

Tony Palladino bowled his side back into the match after Derbyshire had been dismissed for just 139 in their County Championship match against Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground.Veteran seamer Palladino ended the day having taken three wickets and conceded only three runs from nine overs of medium-paced swing bowling, ensuring a remarkable day’s cricket finished roughly even. He was following the example of Leicestershire’s quartet of seamers, who had earlier taken full advantage of the cloudy conditions.Mohammad Abbas took 3 for 38 and Chris Wright 3 for 39, while Dieter Klein and Will Davis took two wickets apiece on a pitch which, while offering occasional slight assistance to the bowlers, was far from the minefield the scores might suggest.Billy Godleman and fellow opener Luis Reece were made to work for every run by the accuracy of Abbas and Wright, but having seen off Abbas, the visitors lost their first wicket when Klein swung a quick delivery back into Reece and won a leg before decision.Godleman followed without another run being added, edging Wright low to first slip where Paul Horton held the catch. The Leicestershire skipper held his second catch when Davis found the edge of Middlesex loanee Tom Lace, and soon afterwards Abbas got the reward his earlier efforts had deserved when Alex Hughes edged an outswinger to wicket-keeper Lewis Hill. There was hope for Derbyshire in the form shown by Wayne Madsen, the experienced right-hander stroking eight boundaries in going to an unbeaten 39 at lunch, but he lost partner Harvey Hosein soon after the break, leg before to a full, straight delivery from Wright before himself being given leg before to an Abbas delivery that seamed sharply back.Matt Critchley was caught chest-high by Colin Ackermann at second slip off Abbas, Anuj Dal held at the second attempt by Harry Dearden at third slip off a full delivery from Wright, and Palladino clipped Davis straight to Hassan Azad at square leg before Ravi Rampaul top-edged an attempted hook at Klein to Wright at long leg.Leicestershire’s batsmen fared no better, however. Horton was unfortunate, under-edging a wide delivery from Palladino on to his off-stump, but Ateeq Javid was palpably leg before to a straight delivery before Mark Cosgrove edged a Reece ball that bounced more than he expected low to first slip.Ackermann’s dismissal, leg before playing across the line to Palladino, came shortly before bad light ended play seven overs early, a further ten overs having been lost earlier to showers.

Rangers could oust Yilmaz by signing 6ft 3 gem who "looks like Ronaldo"

Glasgow Rangers don’t return to action until 20 January and Philippe Clement has whisked his squad away to Spain for a midseason training camp.

Having already played 34 times during the first half of the season, the winter break comes at exactly the right time for the Light Blues and will give them a chance to regroup and refocus ahead of the next few months.

With a League Cup trophy secured and progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League, the previous few weeks have been wonderful, but progress never stops, and the Belgian coach will be desperate to win more silverware.

To do this, however, he may need to delve into the transfer market and lure some new players to Ibrox, otherwise his squad may run out of gas towards the end of the campaign.

Rangers transfer news – Josh Doig

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via Toro Goal) announced that Rangers were one of the number of teams keen on making a move for Josh Doig during the January transfer window.

Clement could face stiff competition for the left-back as Torino have reportedly opened up talks to sign the Scot, while AC Monza and Leeds United are two other teams which have been mentioned regarding a potential swoop.

The deal could cost €6m (£5.2m) for whatever team manages to sign him, yet the Gers could perhaps have the upper hand.

Hellas Verona, the team that Doig plays for, are seemingly interested in making a move for Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Di Marzio, and this could play into Clement’s hands rather well this month.

The Turkish defender cost the Light Blues £5m when he arrived from Besiktas during the summer of 2022 and this is around the fee that the Serie A side are wanting for Doig.

Could there be a potential swap deal in the offing should neither side agree on a transfer fee for their respective targets? It might well come down to that, and it could give Clement the perfect opportunity to move the 22-year-old on and bring someone else in.

Ridvan Yilmaz’s Rangers statistics

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst was the manager who brought in the young defender following the 2021/22 campaign as he sought to give Borna Barisic some added competition, especially as Calvin Bassey departed for Ajax.

Upon his arrival, Yilmaz was widely praised by former sporting director Ross Wilson, who said: "Gio and I were clear in our desire to invest in a high potential and high-quality left-back.

"We have now secured that in the signing of Ridvan Yilmaz. He's a talented young player who has been coveted throughout Europe following outstanding performances for Besiktas.”

He looked like a wonderful talent and hopes were high that he could eventually displace Barisic and perhaps go down the same route as Bassey and secure the club a major profit in the future.

Unfortunately, his first season didn’t go to plan. The former Besiktas starlet managed to feature just six times before the mid-season break for the 2022 World Cup, while his debut campaign was further disrupted having suffered a hamstring injury in October, and he subsequently missed 29 matches in all competitions.

He finally returned to action towards the end of the season and started all five of their post-split fixtures, thriving under Michael Beale, and it looked as though he could only get better during 2023/24.

The current campaign has seen the 22-year-old start only ten matches and Beale even left him out of the Europa League group stage squad, meaning the Gers had only one senior option at left-back heading into the games.

He has shown glimpses of form under Clement, particularly in the final game before the winter break against Kilmarnock, where he grabbed an assist, created a big chance and provided two key passes in a solid attacking display.

The consistency simply isn’t there, however, and this could give the former Club Brugge coach the licence to ditch him this month and lure Doig back to Scotland, especially as it would boost the homegrown quota for European matches.

Josh Doig’s career statistics

The in-demand talent has plenty of experience in Scottish football, having previously played for Hibernian. The 21-year-old made his debut during the 2019/20 season before firmly establishing himself as a regular the following season, making 35 appearances in all competitions.

His displays convinced Verona to sign him ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, having been given a notable send-off by Hibs hero, Lewis Stevenson at the time, who even likened Doig to a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking back in the summer of 2022, Stevenson said: "Josh has potential to go to the top level. He is 6ft 3in, fast, strong. Even just looking at him with his top off – without meaning to sound creepy – he looks like Ronaldo, with that kind of physique.

"He just is an athlete and that is half the battle nowadays. Everyone here wishes him all the best"

Josh Doig

Like the former Juventus man before him, the 6 foot 3 defender is currently shining in Serie A, ranking in the top 7% when compared to players in Europe’s top five leagues for successful take-ons per 90 (1.69) and in the top 21% for total shots per 90 (0.94), certainly proving he is a valuable attacking outlet from the left-hand side of the defence.

His defensive abilities have also improved during his spell in Italy and in the league this term, Doig has only been dribbled past on 0.4 occasions per game while he has won 3.1 total duels per game – a success rate of 53% – and there is no doubt he could be an excellent addition to the current Gers squad.

Josh Doig, Celtic, Hibs, Premiership

Rangers could sign Barisic replacement in Josh Doig

Rangers could sign a dream Borna Barisic replacement in Hibernian starlet Josh Doig.

Young, homegrown and with a wonderfully “high ceiling” – as so dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig last January – the signing makes perfect sense, and he would be returning to Scotland a much better player than when he left in the summer of 2022.

With Yilmaz struggling to gain regular game time combined with Barisic’s contract expiring this summer, the left-back area is one of immediate concern for Clement.

He could solve this problem by allowing Yilmaz to join Verona this month and securing the services of Doig in return, and it would be a piece of transfer business which could go down rather well with the supporters.

There are still a few weeks to go before the window shuts, and it gives the 49-year-old coach a chance to assess his options, yet Doig clearly has the potential to further improve and become a mainstay at left-back in the coming years, that’s for sure.

Arsenal’s 4/10 man should be sold after Fulham defeat

Arsenal's hopes of finally lifting another Premier League crown took a mammoth hit away at Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

The back end of 2023 has not been kind to the Gunners who now only have one win to show for their efforts in their last five games.

The defeat against West Ham was perhaps unfortunate, no matter how poor they were in both boxes. Indeed, they registered a whopping 77 touches in the opposition's penalty area without scoring.

This time they did score as they ultimately slipped to a 2-1 defeat. On this occasion, they certainly did deserve it. This was one of the worst performances under Mikel Arteta's reign so far and leaves them in a battle to secure a top-four berth, let alone challenge for the title.

They are now level on points with Manchester City and could slip even further behind in the race if Liverpool beat Newcastle on New Year's Day.

There were a host of nominees for the Gunners' worst performer on the day, but Eddie Nketiah was sadly one player who didn't stand up when it mattered at Craven Cottage.

Eddie Nketiah's performance in numbers

This was a glorious opportunity for the English forward to stake a claim to Arteta. After all, he already has a hat-trick this season in the league – against Sheffield United – and Gabriel Jesus hasn't exactly been prolific, scoring just three Premier League goals.

However, this is a player who now hasn't scored away from home in the top flight for a year. He ends 2023 without an away goal to his name at this level; a statistic that rather sums up the attacker's laboured approach to the game.

There is no doubting that Nketiah is a good finisher. He's a cracking poacher but the fact of the matter is he doesn't possess the tools to be a threat against a low block. The 24-year-old also doesn't offer a great amount in the build-up phase either.

That was seen first-hand against Fulham were he dropped an "utterly anonymous" performance as SPORTbible's Tom Marshall-Bailey put it.

This was a torrid afternoon for Nketiah with the striker perhaps rightfully earning just a 4/10 match rating courtesy of the Standard. That may even be rather generous for a man who managed just 24 touches of the ball – six fewer than goalkeeper David Raya – and only eight accurate passes in 90 minutes of play.

Nketiah offered very little throughout, managing just one chance of note, firing wide from a tight angle during the first half.

Nketiah's future at Arsenal

In truth, it would be a great surprise if the forward's time at Arsenal came to an end in January but if the Gunners are serious about toppling Manchester City come next May, they need an upgrade.

They don't just need an upgrade on Nketiah, however. They need a more natural goalscorer than Jesus too.

A deal for Ivan Toney is one the club "want" to do as per Miguel Delaney of the Independent but with a £100m asking price previously touted, splashing such an amount of cash in January will not be easy.

That said, even before a striker arrives, raising funds by selling Nketiah might not be the worst idea. His overall goal tally speaks volumes and he's attracted interest from across the league too.

Only this weekend was it reported by The Daily Mail that Arsenal had rejected an enquiry from Crystal Palace for the former Leeds loanee.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah

Well, after this display, it may not be a surprise if they chase up a few bids over the course of the next month. Nketiah will very likely be an Arsenal player once the window closes, but that is a sad fact that speaks volumes of the club's recent plight. They need to get rid, and get rid soon.

Deandra Dottin's all-round brilliance demolishes Pakistan

She followed her dominant 96 with 3 for 14 to hand Pakistan a 146-run loss in the first ever women’s ODI at the Dubai International Stadium

Deandra Dottin demolished Pakistan in the first ever women’s ODI to be played at the Dubai International Stadium, with a dominant 96 and 3 for 14. Her all-round brilliance handed Pakistan a 146-run drubbing and West Indies two championship points.West Indies secured the victory after Pakistan lost 9 for 24 to be dismissed for 70 in their chase of 217. Javeria Khan had stood in as captain in place of Bismah Maroof who was rested after she was hit on the jaw while attempting to catch the ball on the eve of the game.Dottin’s disdainful all-round show followed a productive T20I series in which she struck 158 runs and took three wickets. On Thursday, after West Indies had laboured to 25 for 1 in the Powerplay, she bailed her side out of trouble. Dottin’s opening partner Kycia Knight, though, was bowled for an 18-ball duck in the sixth over by Sana Mir.Dottin, however, found able assistance from the returning captain Stafanie Taylor, who had opted out of the T20I series in Karachi that West Indies won 2-1. They brought up the team fifty in the 22nd over, and then in the next over, Dottin cut loose to smash Umaima Sohail for 11 runs. The pair put on a 146-run stand, West Indies’ fifth highest in ODIs. They attacked offspinner Nida Dar and left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu in the 37th and 38th overs, before medium-pacer Kainat Imtiaz had Taylor holing out to Sidra Ameen in the 40th over for an enterprising 97-ball 58, her first international fifty in nearly a year.Dottin muscled eight fours and two sixes in her 139-ball knock, but was denied a hundred by Imtiaz, who ended with 3 for 49. After Dottin’s departure, contrasting cameos from Shermaine Campbelle (26* off 30 balls) and Chinelle Henry (18* off 9 balls) hauled West Indies past 200.In reply, Pakistan folded for 70 in 29.5 overs. After they lost Sidra Ameen for a duck in the second over, Nahida Khan, the other opener, top-scored with a 47-ball 23. However, she had to retire hurt after being hit on the visor of her helmet. Soon after, Dottin bowled the No. 4 batsman Sohail for a golden duck, in the 17th over, triggering a full-blown collapse. With Aimen Anwar opting not to bat after sustaining a hamstring injury during West Indies’ innings, Pakistan’s chase had a premature end.Like Dottin, Afy Fletcher contributed handsomely in scripting Pakistan’s downfall, picking up 3 for 17 in 8.5 overs.

West Brom may have their next Louie Barry in 20 y/o starlet

Missing out on the Championship playoff spots last season by just three points, Carlos Corberan's West Bromwich Albion will hope history doesn't repeat itself again with the Baggies just outside the playoff picture once again 16 games into the new second-tier campaign.

The Baggies left the door open for Sunderland to leapfrog above them in the league standings last match, West Brom losing narrowly at St Mary's to Russell Martin's Southampton 2-1 to surrender their grasp on sixth position to Tony Mowbray's Black Cats.

Personnel at the Hawthorns in the form of John Swift and Grady Diangana will hope they can lead from the front to push the West Midlanders further up the division, Corberan's men desperate to break their now three-season stay in the second tier to return to facing off against English football's elite.

West Brom winger Grady Diangana.

The Baggies manager could even gamble on picking young talent Tom Fellows ahead of senior faces to spearhead a sustained promotion push, the 20-year-old tipped for a big future in the game.

The one-time Crawley Town loanee has been unleashed onto the Championship sparingly by the Spaniard this season, showing glimpses of his exceptional creativity in short-lived cameos.

Tom Fellows' statistics this season

Fellows' electric performances at youth level for West Brom have more than warranted Corberan giving him brief cameo appearances at senior level now, the 20-year-old netting 14 goals in total for the Baggies at U18 and U21 level.

Handed his first ever first-team appearance in the second tier versus Reading in 2021, Fellows has gone on to feature in the senior ranks 14 more times.

Yet to register a goal or an assist in the men's team at the Hawthorns, Fellows has nonetheless impressed in the second tier when substituted on.

A brief 15-minute spell off the bench versus QPR saw the youngster create a big opening for a teammate to increase the Baggies lead as per Sofascore, strolling past his marker with ease to then tee up Jed Wallace who squandered the opportunity.

Corberan could well begin to tinker with his regimented first eleven to accommodate the 20-year-old to start more matches, displacing the likes of Matt Phillips and Diangana as a result.

It could well be a conundrum that the Spanish manager has to come to terms with soon, Fellows linked with a move away from the Hawthorns in recent weeks owing to his contract running out at the end of the season.

Fellow's future at West Brom

West Brom won't want to have another case of the one that got away, Louie Barry leaving the Baggies as a youngster for Barcelona a notable departee.

However, that situation could be repeated here with reports suggesting that the youth product turned infrequent first-teamer is subject to interest from abroad, Football Insider suggesting that Bundesliga outfits Werder Bremen and FC Augsburg are interested in West Brom's number 31.

There's also interest from West Brom's promotion rivals in the form of Southampton and Leicester City, the Baggies hoping that they can bat away any potential bids by giving their young talent more starting opportunities in the weeks to come.

Fellows could stake a claim to be Corberan's starting man down the left wing, an unnatural slot for the 20-year-old to occupy but one he could fill with a lack of options available to his manager – Adam Reach sidelined with an injury currently down that flank.

West Brom will do everything in their power to keep Fellows at the club, an emerging young talent who looks as if he can only get better if nurtured and developed with patience at the Hawthorns.

Nível do futebol brasileiro

Estamos trabalhando bastante a fase defensiva.
