Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become the new England manager, with the German replacing Gareth Southgate as the permanent Three Lions boss.

The 51-year-old has managed in England before, winning the Champions League during his time with Chelsea, while he has also taken charge of the likes of European heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in the last 10 years.

Tuchel will officially take charge of England in 2025, and his first major tournament looks set to be the 2026 World Cup, which is being held in Canada, Mexico and the United States. But who could really shine under Tuchel for England? We’ve taken a look at 10 players who could enjoy working under the German.

Central midfielder Mason Mount starred under Tuchel during his time at Chelsea, winning the Champions League in 2021. Talking after 12 months working under the German, Mount spoke about the attacking role he’d been given.

“This season over the last few I’ve probably played a little bit higher than I was used to – playing as a kind of forward 10, or sometimes a winger or a false 9. So I’ve had to adapt a bit, but that gives me more opportunity to get into the box and have the opportunities to score and create.

“So far this season that’s been a big focus of mine, to improve that and to put pressure on myself to be someone who wants to go forward and step up and score goals and create assists. That’s definitely something that’s improved over the time he’s been here.”

Mount’s since had a frustrating spell with Manchester United, but if he can play regularly for the Red Devils, Tuchel may look at a reunion with the midfielder on the international stage.

One player who hasn’t been as prolific as Kane in front of goal during his career is Marcus Rashford, though the Manchester United winger is a player who Tuchel rates highly. Even though the two haven’t worked together during their careers, the German heaped praise on Rashford during his time at PSG.

He has struggled for consistency with the Red Devils, which resulted in failing to become a regular under Southgate, but he could be a player who Tuchel is relishing the chance to work with following his previous comments.

Another former Chelsea player who may be in line to work with Tuchel is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The midfielder’s last England appearance came way back in 2018 and has since featured under Tuchel for the Blues, with the German even comparing Loftus-Cheek to the iconic Michael Ballack.

“I was quite a fan of him when he was younger. He reminded me of Michael Ballack in his style of play, his movements. There were links with him moving to Germany. We are well aware of his talent.”

Loftus-Cheek was sold to Milan in 2023 and has been a regular for the Serie A giants since then, so perhaps a call-up could be on the cards.

Continuing the trend of ex-Chelsea midfielders who could shine under Tuchel for England is Conor Gallagher, now at Atletico Madrid.

The new England boss once compared Gallagher to N’Golo Kante and even handed the former his full Blues debut after numerous loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

The pair’s time working together at Chelsea may have been short and sweet, but with Gallagher now an important member of Diego Simeone’s plans in Spain, perhaps an international role could be his in the near future.

Centre-back Eric Dier appeared to surprise Tuchel during his time at Bayern Munich, with the coach admitting the defender was an “excellent signing” from Tottenham Hotspur that “exceeded expectations” for the German giants.

Dier was once a regular member of Southgate’s England squads, and with Tuchel knowing all about the player and what he could bring to the squad, perhaps a first call-up since 2022 could be on the cards.

Left-back has been an unsettled area of the pitch for England in recent years, with first-choice Luke Shaw struggling with various injuries.

Right-back Kieran Trippier was used there often by Southgate, but Ben Chilwell could be the one to star for England under Tuchel. The pair know each other from Stamford Bridge where there were ups and downs, but at one point, Tuchel hailed Chilwell’s role as an attacking wing-back.

If he goes with a similar 3-4-2-1 system on the international stage, perhaps Chilwell could become a starter under Tuchel’s plans.

Glasgow Rangers returned to domestic action last weekend with a whimper rather than the bang that many of the Ibrox support were expecting.

Of course, Dundee United at Tannadice was always going to be a tough challenge, but after Tom Lawrence scored the opening goal after just seven minutes, that was as good as it got for Philippe Clement’s men.

One of the most positive aspects of the underwhelming 1-0 victory was summer signing Hamza Igamane receiving a 25-minute cameo.

The Moroccan youngster took the game in his stride, showcasing his talents despite limited minutes. Could Clement unleash him from the starting XI this evening?

Despite arriving at Ibrox during the summer transfer window, it took a few weeks for him to build up his fitness.

Clement brought him off the subs bench during the 3-0 defeat to Celtic at the start of the month, but he was only given 11 minutes.

Against United, however, it was a different story. His inclusion made the Gers much more dynamic going forward, with his excellent ball control and special awareness giving him plenty of freedom in the final third.

With more clinical finishing, he could have had an assist after a wonderful through ball, but it was a solid cameo overall.

With Cyriel Dessers in need of a rest, this is Igamane’s chance to shine against Dundee in the League Cup quarter-final.

There could well be more than one change, as one of Clement’s other summer signings is ready to make his first start for the Light Blues.

In Serie A last season, the attacking midfielder scored twice and grabbed two assists for Sassuolo, although he couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated.

Bajrami also created three big chances, averaged 0.8 key passes per game and succeeded with 57% of his dribble attempts, demonstrating his attacking qualities in one of the top European leagues.

It was seen as a coup when the Gers announced his signing, with Kai Watson, founder of the Rangers Journal lavished praise on the midfielder, saying: “A technically gifted, intelligent footballer than can play in multiple positions with plenty of Serie A experience.”

He was limited to an appearance from the bench last weekend, coming on for the second half, showing flashes of his brilliance.

He managed to succeed with two of his four dribble attempts, while also winning 50% of his total duels in what was his introduction to Scottish football.

Leeds United are looking to make it successive wins in the Championship when they play host to Hull City at Elland Road in their fourth league game of the season on Saturday.

The Whites beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 last week, thanks to goals from Brenden Aaronson and Dan James, and are now preparing to take on the Tigers in West Yorkshire.

Before that game, however, there is the small matter of the last two days of the summer transfer window for Daniel Farke and his recruitment team to contend with.

Leeds have been dealt many blows in recent months as key players have moved on, with Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, and Archie Gray all snapped up by Premier League clubs, whilst Glen Kamara completed a switch to Ligue 1 with Rennes.

Farke has been able to dip into the market to add to his squad, though, with the signings of Alex Cairns, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Largie Ramazani, Joe Rothwell, and Manor Solomon.

The Whites are not done there and look set to make further moves before the summer transfer window slams shut on Friday night, with a central midfielder said to be on their wishlist.

Leeds set to sign midfield star

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Leeds United are set to complete a last-gasp deal to sign Fortuna Dusseldorf central midfielder Ao Tanaka, who he described as a "top" player.

The reporter claims that a fee of €4m (£3.4m) has been agreed between the two clubs and the Whites are now due to bolster their midfield ranks with this late swoop.

Plettenberg adds that the Japan international is set to sign a contract with the English side through to the end of the 2027/28 campaign, committing to four years with the club.

The German journalist also reveals that the 25-year-old maestro will undergo a medical in Leeds on Thursday ahead of his official unveiling as Farke's new signing.

It was, though, reported by the Daily Mail recently that the Fortuna midfielder has a release clause in his contract, which means that he could have been signed for £2.65m.

However, this latest update suggests that the Whites are due to pay a little bit more than that, potentially as it would allow them to stagger the payments over multiple years, instead of it all being upfront.

The Daily Mail added that the West Yorkshire outfit have been looking to add to their midfield ranks since Kamara's move to Rennes, and Tanaka could now come in as an upgrade on the Ligue 1 ace.

Glen Kamara's performances for Leeds

Leeds swooped to sign the central midfielder from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, and he enjoyed a fine year with the club.

The Finland international worked his way into the starting XI and became a key player for Farke in the team's run to the Championship play-off final.

His athleticism and reliability in possession made him an ideal fit for the German's possession-based side, as he turned into a metronomic figure in midfield for the Whites.

As you can see in the table above, Kamara used his athleticism and strength to win the majority of his physical duels across the pitch last season.

However, the 28-year-old dynamo only contributed with three direct goal involvements, and failed to score a single goal, in 37 appearances in the division, which shows that he did not make a big impact in the final third.

Kamara was impressive in possession in deeper positions, however, as he ranked within the top 2% of midfielders in the Championship for pass accuracy (92.7%) and the top 6% for progressive passes (6.87) per 90.

This shows that he was a reliable passer, who rarely gave the ball away, and a midfielder who could progress play by passing between the lines to find teammates in dangerous positions.

Overall, Kamara provided a calming and progressive presence in the middle of the park but let himself down by not making a greater impact in the final third as either a scorer or a creator of goals, and that is where Tanaka could come in as an upgrade for the Whites.

Why Ao Tanaka would be a Glen Kamara upgrade

Firstly, a fee of £2.65m – if they activate his release clause – could be a bargain for Leeds, when you consider that Rennes reportedly paid £8.4m to sign the Finnish maestro.

The Japanese ace could come in as a relatively cheap, in comparison to Kamara's sale, signing for the Whites, as well as being an excellent signing if he can translate his form from the 2. Bundesliga over to the Championship.

In the 2023/24 campaign, Tanaka ranked within the top 14% of midfielders in the second division in Germany for progressive passes (5.66) per 90 – 1.21 fewer per 90 than Kamara, who attempted 11.19 more passes per 90.

This suggests that the Fortuna star could provide a similar number of progressive passes each game in a Leeds team that offers him more chances to get on the ball and play passes forward for his teammates.

Whilst being similar in that regard, Tanaka could come in as an upgrade on Kamara because of his ability to make things happen in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, the Fortuna maestro was directly involved in ten goals in 30 matches in the 2. Bundesliga last season, which shows that he can provide quality as a scorer and a creator of goals.

His return of three assists from six 'big chances' created also suggests that his teammates let him down at times with their wasteful finishing.

Tanaka, who journalist Bence Bocsák described as "underrated", could come in and offer a similar defensive and progressive presence in midfield, whilst offering far more in the final third.

Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for their sixth signing of the summer as they gear up for the upcoming Premier League season, with a medical booked for their latest addition.

So far, Nuno Espírito Santo's side have added just five new faces to their ranks this summer. Led by the £35m addition of Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United, they have also signed highly-rated Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic to replace Moussa Niakhate, who completed a move to Lyon.

They have also added goalkeeper Carlos Miguel from Corinthians, as well as signing young pair Marko Stamenic and Eric da Silva Moreira from Red Star Belgrade and St Pauli repsectively.

But they are expected to remain busy for the coming month of the transfer window. As per reliable reporter John Percy, they are eyeing up at least five new faces.

"Forest will look to make further additions", he reports, with the "priority" being "two wingers, a forward, a left-back and another goalkeeper" between now and the end of the transfer window.

They have been linked with a shock loan move for Arsenal no.2 Aaron Ramsdale, while they are also thought to be set to submit an offer for impressive Brazilian teenager Wesley Gassova. And there is another deal that the club are on the verge of completing.

Winger set for Nottingham Forest medical

That comes in the shape of Portuguese attacker Jota Silva, who is set to fly to England to complete a medical with the Reds this week ahead of completing a move to the City Ground.

That is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that the Midlands outfit have reached a "verbal agreement" over a deal with Vitoria, which will see Forest pay €7m up front plus a potential €6m in further add-ons.

Those add-ons consists of €3m if he plays 15 games, and a further €3m should he score 10 goals, while he is likely to be in for a major increase on his current £3,000 a week deal in Portugual.

Still just 24-years-old, Silva scored 11 goals and grabbed 7 assists from right wing last season, and will add more firepower to Nuno's attack.

It was a "top" season, according to analyst Ben Mattinson on X, who added that he "plays a lot like" Manchester City ace Jack Grealish, who once plied his trade across the Midlands with Aston Villa.

One name who has been linked with a move to the Magpies in recent weeks is Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The English striker is the subject of interest from numerous clubs with Newcastle reported to have recently put in a fresh bid for the player.

Journalist drops hints about the Magpies' mystery target

As reported by iNews' Mark Douglas, a recent press sit-down with Darren Eales saw Newcastle's CEO drop some interesting information about the Magpies' transfer strategy this summer.

Since joining Newcastle in July 2022, Eales has played a key role in the Toon's transfer business over the last couple of seasons alongside former sporting director, Dan Ashworth. With the profile of Newcastle's mystery target now known, it can shed some further light on a couple of the targets most recently linked with moves to the club.

Whilst it is cited that the club are specifically looking for a striker, a forward in the mould of Calvert-Lewin would not fit Eales' criteria of dynamic and versatile. Similarly, the previously mentioned Gnonto is too much of a wide man to be the player that the Magpies' CEO is talking about, so perhaps it could be a more versatile option who can fit in along the front three.

One player touted for a move to Tyneside is West Ham and England star Jarrod Bowen. With 20 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last campaign, the 27-year-old certainly fits the bill to be the Toons' target. Despite being a right winger by trade, Bowen spent much of last season playing as a striker as a result of Michail Antonio's injury issues.

وحول حالة أولمو وباو فيكتور، أجاب رافينها: “إنه وضع معقد. بالنسبة لهم، وبالنسبة لنا أيضًا. نحن نحاول أن نجعل الأمر ليس صعبًا عليهم ويمكن للمسؤولين حل هذا الأمر في أسرع وقت ممكن حتى يتمكنوا من اللعب في أقرب وقت”.

وتابع رافينها: “علينا أن نثق في أن هذا سيتم حله بسرعة. في النهاية أرسلوا لنا رسائل إيجابية للغاية وعلينا أن ننتظر. نحاول أن نكون هادئين حتى نتمكن من القيام بعملنا”. 

وبين قائلاً عن أزمة أولمو وفيكتور: “لا أحب الكذب، أعتقد أن ذلك قد يؤثر على المستقبل، لو كنت في نادٍ آخر ورأيت ما يحدث مع أولمو وباو، لربما فكرت في الأمر (مسألة الانتقال إلى برشلونة)، لكن عندما جئت إلى هنا، قبل التوقيع، كنت أعرف وضع النادي وانتظرت حتى أتمكن من المجئ إلى هنا، أنا لست نادمًا على أي شيء”.

وعن العام الجديد، علق اللاعب البرازيلي: “لقد بدأنا الفوز مرة أخرى. أنا أفضل، لقد شعرت ببعض الانزعاج لكننا قررنا أنني يجب أن أرتاح وأتمنى أن أتمكن من مساعدة الفريق في المباراة القادمة”.

وأفاد: “كرة القدم غالبًا ما تكون غير عادلة، لقد لعبنا مباراة جيدة ضد أتلتيكو لكننا خسرنا. في بعض الأحيان تلعب بشكل أفضل ولكننا نخسر، نريد التركيز على المباراة بنسبة 100٪ وارتكاب أقل عدد ممكن من الأخطاء لتحقيق الفوز”.

وعن المشجعين المحليين أنهى قائلاً: “أن أكون ممتنًا للحب. أن أكون قادرًا على المجيء إلى هنا واللعب في نصف النهائي والنهائي أمر مثير، نريد أن نبذل قصارى جهدنا لمحاولة الفوز”.
