Manchester United have been pursuing Jadon Sancho for several years now, and appear to be no further forward. 

The Red Devils have been linked to Sancho ever since Jose Mourinho took charge of Old Trafford.

Sancho has told Borussia Dortmund he wants to return to the Premier League, via ESPN. However, Dortmund remain confident nobody will be able to afford their asking price, as Hans-Joachim Watzke believes clubs are incapable of spending such a huge amount of money at the moment.

Watzke told Sport1: “If Jadon approaches us and says he wants to leave no matter what, which did not happen until now, and a club wants to spend what we demand, we will discuss it.

“But I don’t think there will be a club that pays the fee we want.”

Although reports have repeatedly insisted that the Red Devils are leading the race to sign Sancho in the summer, this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. United have actually started drafting a list of alternatives in the event they miss out on the winger, which may concern some supporters.

The 20-year-old, who is BVB’s top scorer this season,netted 19 goals and supplied 18 assists in the Bundesliga, although Lucien Favre’s side still missed out on the coveted title.

To make matters worse, Dortmund suffered a humiliating defeat at home to Hoffenheim on the final day of the season. Nevertheless, the 8-time German champions are optimistic Sancho will stay at the Signal Iduna Park.

Moreover, they are holding out for their £115m valuation.

Ed Woodward has stressed it is unrealistic to expect the board to splash the cash in the transfer window, as a result of the financial repercussions of the pandemic.

Failure to sign Sancho would be a major blow for Solskjaer, as the club legend has identified him as his top transfer target.

Clubs all over the world are bearing the brunt of the economic impact from the pandemic, and United may be unable to meet Dortmund’s hefty demands.

Liverpool supporters have been going wild on Twitter this week after The Athletic’s James Pearce relayed huge news from the Premier League.

On Monday it was announced that teams in the top-flight would resume training ahead of a potential return to action. Players will have to train in small groups and keep to social distance guidelines. Contact training is still not permitted whilst those involved will be tested twice per week.

This comes as major delight to many at Anfield as it means that the idea of a ‘null and void’ season is put on the backburner – something they don’t want to see given they are on the verge of landing their first-ever Premier League trophy.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are some 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City having lost just one game all season with only nine matches remaining.

أكد سيد عبد الحفيظ مدير الكرة بالأهلي، إن الفريق سيدخل معسكرًا مغلقًا بالإسكندرية يوم 16 سبتمبر الجاري عقب مباراة المقاولون العرب الودية، وذلك استعدادًا لخوض كأس السوبر المحلي.

الأهلي يستعد لمواجهة طلائع الجيش المحدد لها يوم 21 من الشهر الجاري، على استاد الجيش ببرج العرب بالإسكندرية، في كأس السوبر المحلي.

وأضاف عبد الحفيظ، في تصريحات لموقع الأهلي الرسمي، أن الأهلي سيستمر في الإسكندرية حتى موعد مباراة إنبي في دور الـ16 بكأس مصر، والمقرر إقامتها يوم 25 من سبتمبر الجاري على استاد الإسكندرية.

وكان سيد عبد الحفيظ قد أعلن أن الأهلي سيخوض مباراتين وديتين يومي 13 و16 سبتمبر الجاري أمام فريقي الاتصالات والمقاولون على الترتيب.

وأشار عبد الحفيظ إلى أن المباراتين الوديتين سيتم إقامتهما على ملعب التتش بالجزيرة، في إطار التحضيرات للمرحلة المقبلة التي تشمل مباراة كأس السوبر المصري، وما تبقى من مباريات بطولة كأس مصر.

وكان النادي الأهلي تلقى أمس الأول الأربعاء خطابًا رسميًّا من اتحاد الكرة المصري بمواعيد المباريات المتبقية في مسابقة كأس مصر لموسم 2020-2021.

وحدد اتحاد الكرة يوم 25 سبتمبر الجاري موعدًا لمواجهة الأهلي أمام إنبي في دور الـ16 في تمام الثامنة مساء على استاد الإسكندرية.

وفي حال فوز الأهلي على إنبي في دور الـ16 سيواجه الفائز من سموحة وبيراميدز في دور الـ8 يوم 29 من الشهر الجاري، في المباراة المقرر إقامتها على استاد السويس الجديد.

وإذا تخطى الأهلي دور الـ8 سيكون على موعد مع مباراة الدور قبل النهائي يوم 3 أكتوبر المقبل أمام بتروجت.

وأكد خطاب اتحاد الكرة إقامة المباراة النهائية لمسابقة كأس مصر يوم 19 أكتوبر المقبل على استاد الجيش ببرج العرب.

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react with GIFS after it was reported by The Sun (via Gazette Live) that Tony Pulis is keeping an eye on developments at St Mary’s.

The former Crystal Palace and Stoke boss – who has been out of work since Middlesbrough decided not to renew his contract back in the summer – is believed to have rejected an offer to take over at Cardiff as he holds out in hope of either West Ham or the Saints parting ways with Manuel Pellegrini and Ralph Hasenhuttl respectively.

The Hammers haven’t won in six Premier League outings, whereas Southampton are 19th in the table having conceded the most goals in the division – it is very feasible that either of them could part ways with the man in charge.

However, what doesn’t seem as feasible is Pulis being appointed in either position. The 61-year-old hasn’t managed in the top-flight for two years since West Brom sacked him, and failed to guide an expensively assembled Boro side into the Championship top six.

As a result of the concerning news that Pulis is eyeing up Hasenhuttl’s job, a number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react with GIFs in humorous fashion.

Speaking to The Manchester Evening News, former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has hailed Fred for his improvements this season.

What did he say?

The Brazil international endured a difficult debut campaign at the club last season, registering just 25 appearances across all competitions. But this year, the former Shakhtar Donetsk man has become an increasingly influential figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with the United manager even describing him as the “catalyst” for the team’s victory over Brighton before the international break.

And now, Kleberson has given his plaudits to his Brazilian compatriot, and insisted he is beginning to repay the faith and expectation that is being placed on his shoulders right now.

He said: “Fred has got a lot of expectation on him now, as he’s shown his quality. He’s started moving the ball well and shuts down space for the opposition in midfield. When he first started playing alongside Andreas Pereira they struggled, but now they’ve got used to the tempo of the Premier League, they are starting to show their qualities.

“He can continue to improve but everything can change in football, so he needs to stay confident and keep his position in the side. As his position will come down to the team getting the right results.”

Huge strides

With Paul Pogba out injured, Fred has arguably been the man to benefit the most from the France World Cup winner’s absence. Ahead of the Premier League clash against Sheffield United at the weekend, the 26-year-old has played and completed the full 90 minutes in the last five games in the top-flight for the Red Devils.

His increased game-time has also been down to his more influential performances on the pitch, with the midfielder averaging an impressive 2.4 tackles per game in the Premier League. Having arrived from Shakhtar for a fee in the region of £47m, it appears United are finally beginning to see what they shelled all that money out for.

England will face Montenegro and Kosovo in their next two Euro 2020 qualifiers as they attempt to secure qualification for next year’s tournament. Whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold may be standing out offensively, Kieran Trippier is the best option for Gareth Southgate at right-back.

On the chalkboard

Last Thursday, Southgate announced his Three Lions squad for the all-important upcoming fixtures. For the slot on the right side of the defence, Alexander-Arnold and Trippier have been selected.

The latter left Tottenham to join Atletico Madrid in the summer for £20m and has already started 10 La Liga matches. The former, meanwhile, has been an ever-present in the Premier League for Liverpool. Whilst he may be one of the first names on the team-sheet at Anfield, it is the 29-year-old who should start for the national side.

Defensive solidity

Going forward, Alexander-Arnold is the more creative force, even if Trippier does not do too badly himself. The 21-year-old has made 3.6 chances per match in the Premier League, providing three assists, whilst he has averaged two per match in the Champions League.

That is compared to the former Burnley man’s 1.4 in La Liga. He does have four per match in Europe, but that is across just two matches, whilst he has two assists in all competitions compared to his rival’s four.

However, in a team that does not create too many chances – they have the 12th most in the league per match with 11.1 – he is the third-best playmaker, with Koke and Santiago Arias – who has played just three matches – creating more.

Defensively, though, there is a clear winner so far this term.

Los Rojiblancos are arguably the best defensive side on the continent. In La Liga no team has conceded less than the eight goals they have in their first 13 matches. In the Champions League, too, they are solid, having shipped just four goals, with just as many teams having conceded less.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have kept just two clean sheets in the 17 games Alexander-Arnold has appeared in this season, whilst they have conceded seven goals in Europe. 11 teams have a worse record.

England have impressed going forward – only Belgium and Russia have scored more in Euro 2020 qualifying – but defensively there have been issues. They conceded three against Kosovo despite being 5-1 up at half-time, whilst they also lost 2-1 against the Czech Republic. They have kept just three clean sheets in a relatively easy group, and this comes after they were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi-final.

With 2.4 tackles per match compared to Alexander-Arnold’s 1.3 per game, Trippier will contribute more defensively, which is exactly what England need right now. For the future, the £72m-valued Liverpool star – as per Transfermarkt – will need to improve on his game going forewards if he wants to prove himself indispensable to Southgate.

Manchester United fans on Twitter haven’t lost all hope in Fred yet after he put on an impressive performance against Norwich City on Sunday.

The Brazilian midfielder was rather impressive against the Canaries as he had an 86.4 per cent pass completion rate on his way to picking up a 7.31 WhoScored rating.

It’s fair to say that Fred had a rather underwhelming debut campaign at Old Trafford after his £47m move from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Indeed, the midfielder was labelled as one of the worst signings in the club’s history earlier this month, but now it seems as if he’s on the right track in terms of winning over the Old Trafford faithful as he received a lot of praise for his performance at Carrow Road.

Whether or not Fred can become a star in Manchester remains to be seen, but these fans certainly have faith in him.

Yesterday was a very special day for Leeds United.

It marked the 100th anniversary of the club and there were a number of events going on to commemorate it.

Part of the celebrations includes a gathering of former players in the Centenary Pavilion to kick things off this Saturday ahead of the club’s ‘Centenary Game’ against Birmingham City.

And the reunion of players means only one thing, plenty of opportunities for the stars of old to get pictures with one another, although two men decided to kick things off a little early.

When the players in question are of this high a magnitude in Leeds’ history, it was always going to get a response from the fans.

Tony Yeboah and Lucas Radebe shared a picture of the two of them making their way to the event, and to say Leeds supporters couldn’t contain themselves would be a little bit of an understatement.

The former featured on 54 occasions for the Whites, registering 28 goals while Radebe played a massive 232 times for the club, per Transfermarkt.

In fact, there were a number of players who thought they’d be able to still do a job in the current team, although that may just be the rose-tinted glasses talking.
